I understand your desperation, I hate t when I get bronchitis due to a viral infection (like now) and there is nothing I can do but just stay home and be bored...Use your medicines and if you find that herbs are helping it is great but check with your doctor always as some herbs can contain active ingredients. I drink fennel tea for cough and it is great but I would never leave my ventolin...are you using that as well?

I agree that one should talk to a Dr before taking herbal remedies. My Dr here is really not into them so she wouldn't really know what to tell me because she wouldn’t understand how they work. So I have to speak with my Dr back home who is the one that got me started on both the oregano and olive leaf after the pneumonia happened, and I was off the medications. I know that they both have active ingredients and they can cancel out medications, So I have to take them as far apart from any medication as possible.
I wasn’t taking my seretide regularly because back home I was on very low maintenance doses, even going for day's at a time without anything which is what my Dr wanted. When I moved here I just maintained my regular doses without really considering that I should up them when I started feeling bad.
I currently do 2x at night and once in the morning, and I always have my ventoline with me. I was taking the ventoline upwards of 5-10 times a day depending on the day, and I am now down to 1-2 and even sometimes none! So that is a major breakthrough for me. I just need to get out of this humid climate as it really doesn’t agree with my condition.
Hope you start feeling better Angela. Any kind of bronchial infection is horrible. And you’re right, you cant really do anything but sit it out till you feel better!

....nope! cat's are major allergens. Its the dander that comes off the skin.
there are shampoos that you can use that helps reduce the dander and allergen on pets, maybe that is something you can try? Once a pet person always a pet person, so hopefully you find some kind of solution....

Re: Asthma

My children had pretty bad asthma when they were young back in Canada. Lost of asthma attaches, medication and even a special machine. At times it was pretty scary as they could not breath. Moved to Switzerland and it improved. One of the triggers was stress. My son went to a camp one fall weekend and had an attach. he forgot his medication. The camp leader rubbed his back and settled him down and everything was okay. No more medication now. I worked with both kids and did some stress training with them and I think it helped.

I would also add that milk/dairy products are very bad indeed. Dairy can lengthen a cold. The milk builds up mucous.

I a had a couple of clients who used to have terrible headaches(forehead) and earaches. These were improved by cutting out dairy products.

So I would advise avoid dairy and working on calming

Please tell me something, I wake up often at night because my throat is full of mucus and I can't breath properly. I try to swallow but it stick in the back. Is it coming from the asthma? I always feel like I have a huge plug down my throat!

One other cause of this could be an over-active nasal gland, triggered most probably by an allergic reaction. I had this problem a few years ago and not a single nasal spray helped. I eventually had the glands cauterized and since then i've had very little problem.

You should be able to ask your doctor to give you an allergy test in any case, just to see if you are allergic to anything, at least then you can start eliminating causes.

Re: Asthma

I do consume dairy product like cheese and Yogurt. I did stop all of them for a while and it didn't change a thing!

I am waiting to get my blood test results for allergies.

Humidifier with Asthma is not a good mix I read.

We usually finish to eat around 20h. The problem is not only at night, I have those mucus all day long, 24/7.

Tolalala when you did cauterized those glands, did it change something else? It didn't affect your smell or something?

How long did you stop with the dairy. And did you stop all dairy products.

Also, there maybe a glutine problem.

Ok You all speak chinese to me right now! I don't know any of those medications but I do have Seretide 500 to take twice a day and Nasonex twice a day. I have nothing for crises since I am not sure what is a crise. I can remember some very specific ones I had before in the past but had no treatment to stop or prevent them.

What I have at night is disturbing me a lot, since I can't sleep for a while when I get those ''mucus attack''. It also come with a itchy throat and I cough a lot.

My next appointment with my doctor is in 2 weeks. We will see the blood test results.
Welcome to the Seretide club! I've had Asthma since I was 3, you get used to it. Once you know what trigger's it ( like allergies or something) you take steps to avoid the trigger, or if it flares up with a cold then just take extra care then Never have needed a bracelet, but always carry a blue Bricanyl with me.
And Dairy increases Mucus, I have the same problem, any food with animal fat in it, all the yummy things like chocolate, icecream and cheese.

I have seen this as a common suggestion for people suffering from all sorts of ailments but my question is, if you cut out so much dairy, how do you ensure you are getting enough calcium? As a woman this is pretty important.

I know you can get it from sources such as sardines and some vegetables but surely dairy products offer the most abundant supply?

Well I have to say that if I am in one of my "asthma days" milk and especially chocolate will kill me. But I do enjoy milk in the morning with my cereal

This is a common reply, about calcium that is. We have been trained by the dairy industry over the years to believe that we need so much calcium and we need to get it from milk.

I also know that people almost become addicted to dairy products. I know these are strong words but I have seen people who get very nervous about stopping dairy and find many excuses not to.

You can consume products such as almond milk rice milk that are fortified with calcium.

Yes, I like milk on my cereal too, but buy 1.5% fat milk here. At home I got 0.5% milk which is better. To some pple it tastes like water, but I've been drinking non-fat milk since I was 12, so ya get used to it.

I had the procedure about 12 years ago and the only after effects that I can remember were a sensitive nose when breathing in cold air and the occasional nose bleed. I was told at the time that if the mucus symptoms returned, other than adjusting your lifestyle, there was no other useful procedure. As that was quite some time ago, things may have changed.

Incidentally, I had a different type of allergy test; it was tested on my arm - they pricked the skin and then dropped some irritants on the broken skin. results were immediate, as the more allergic I was to something, the more inflamed the skin became.

Hope you sort out you problem soon.

But what about the bone fide medical advice? My mum never drank milk or ate most dairy products (with the exception of cheese) simply because she couldn't stand it and hated the taste.

Now she has to take calcium supplements and was told by our family doctor to ensure her girls (my sister and I) didn't fall into her trap and that we should be encouraged to maintain a healthy calcium intake.

Speaking of exploiting the market, have you seen the price of almond milk??

I got this allergy test years ago and they didn't find any allergy but they found out I had a rhinitis non-allergic.

My present doctor didn't want to give my this test saying he doesn't trust them enough... That's why he passed directly on the blood test.

Milk is not like smoking so let's not overreact. It is an important source of calcium, but I agree there are others, like spinach for instance.
