We moved to Allschwil (BL) and we better find a house doctor / GP one of these days.

Any one who can recommend an English-speaking one close by?

Also, we got two sons, on aged 7 months and one of 7 years. I seems to be normal to take the little ones to pediatricians (sp?) here. What is the advantage over the GP, if the kids are generally healthy?

In Denmark, we had a GP who took care of us all, I think a bit like the English system.

Check out doktor.ch for doctors in your area, some of them have website so you can see the languages the speak. It is normal to take your children to a pediatrician instead of a GP, that's just the way it is done here. For me I know when my kids are sick they are seeing someone who is specialised in dealing with children. You should register with a pediatrician ASAP as they are your first point of contact in an emergency that does not require an ambulance.

Try out and if you arent happy it is perfectly acceptable to change. I´d also recommend you post a query on the Basel Childbirth Trust website. Seach on this name and you should find it.

Well, paediatricians seem to be the way to do it here. On my todo-list for tomorrow.

I know Kantonsspital Bruderholz. My wife was stationed here when "we" got pregnant with the boy who is now 7 months - the first 6 months of pregnancy was covered there. We commuted between Allschwil and Copenhagen every weekend!

Very helpful forum. For German-speakers, there is hallo-schweiz.de, but i only came across this a couple of days ago.

In Allschwill one minute walking from the tram number 6 terminus is the Dorfplatz Praxis. Oberwillstrasse I believe.
Dr Caroline Trutmann works there and speaks perfect English, as do a couple of the girls in reception.

Yes I can confirm most of them speak english, i guess it is Oberwillerstrasse....

I can also recommend Dr Caroline Trutmann. Very friendly, nice practice, perfect English and easy to get on with. Also put us very much at ease.
