Just wondering if I need to put my daughter's name down on a waiting list for kindergarten? She's only 3 at the moment and I realise it's a little while away yet, but I'm not sure if it's a case of registering months in advance like in the UK for preschool and school?
There's no need. If your daughter turns four before the cut off you will be contacted by your local school administration. They will ask whether or not you want your child to go to a local kindergarten or whether you have another arrangement in mind (private etc). They will then send you the relevant paperwork and you'll be invited to bring her to your allocated kindergarten for a trial session before the school year ends. And that's it, really!
But be aware that the choice of kindergarten is not always the obvious one. I think the decision is based on a mix of things, including geographic location, gender mix etc.

While it might not be necessary to put yourself on the waiting list in some cases, you should do it anyway: in case the rules change later, or if only for your own peace of mind.
