Hi (I'm honestly not a rep for 1800 !)

If you don't live in the US then you don't need to send in the prescription.

The lenses I bought this morning were 35 USD per box. Exactly the same lenses (they're all made in the same factory in Ireland) at mrlens.ch are 76.80 chfs per box.
That's good to know! The price difference is somewhat less (than 100% !) for the lenses I usually buy but I could still save a fair bit, especially if I was organised enough to order more than 3 days before I ran out of lenses. (It could happen ....)

Re: Questions about buying contact lenses online in CH

1800contacts.com ships to Switzerland.

Shipping charges are USD 19.99.

Not sure however about VAT tax and whether contact lenses are subject to the reduced VAT tax applied to medicine and similar.

Re: Questions about buying contact lenses online in CH

Hullo, while I've read through nearly all the threads on here that I can find, am still unsure about ordering online for contacts.
I've only just in recent months joined the lens brigade after years of wearing glasses, got my first set through the local optician, but find them to be much more expensive than the different ones I can potentially order online.

I've looked at most of the sites suggested on these threads (all very, very helpful by the by), just don't get the way I am supposed to enter my data in them.

No matter which site I look at, and do a trial run of placing an order, when I want to put in my prescription info, I only get to put in the power or "sphäre" as it is written, on my prescription.
After that, everything else is all preset and all the other dimensions I have at hand don't seem to be required.

Is it really all they require? I imagined them being much more precise somehow.

I would be glad to know if what I described is the norm ( it just seems too easy) and if so, will be very glad to do my own orders from now on.

Thank you in advance anybody who feels like helping me out on this.

I think it is. I've been ordering from McLinsen and for the ones I take, Acuvue 1-Day moist, there is only power and radius.
Check the contact lenses you originally bought, and use that as your guide.

Depending upon the type of lens you are wearing, it is possible that they come in only one "size" (base curve and radius are the two other common requirements for contact lenses) and that maybe why you are not prompted to enter this info.

Maybe if you share with us what source you're looking at, along with the type of lenses you're wearing, we can help figure it out for you? (It's been some years - going on 8 - since I've worked in optics, but not all of it is completely forgotten yet )

Re: Questions about buying contact lenses online in CH

I've just re-ordered 2 boxes of 90 Focus Dailies for CHF 97.- plus CHF 5.90 p&p from www.discountlens.ch . These are certainly the cheapest I've found in Switzerland (for these lenses) and also cheaper than where I used to order which was www.123optic.com in Luxembourg and www.visiondirect.co.uk (even given the strength of the CHF to EUR/GBP) when you take into account P&P and tax/customs (and let's not forget the Post Office/Customs admin fee )

And there's certainly no "fax us or e-mail your current prescription"! You just need to know the strength you need for each eye (and curvature and diameter where these latter options are available).

Anyway, I ordered them Wednesday afternoon, I had an e-mail confirming they went in the post the same evening at 17h30 and they arrived the next morning. You can't get a better service than that!

Payment is by invoice within 10 days. Couldn't be happier!

Just wanted to share that with you

Another recommendation for discountlens.ch: I also received my order a few days after placing it, even though I have a pretty strong prescription

Didn't get a response, but if you enter assura when you order you get 15% off the first order.

Details can be found here: http://fr.assura.ch/assurance-maladie/discountlensch

Re: Questions about buying contact lenses online in CH

Can also recommend Discountlens.ch, I just bought 4 boxes of Acuvue Oasys and they were 12.00 CHF cheaper than where I used to order.

And delivery was a lot faster: ordered on Thursday and in my mailbox on Saturday, while I've had to wait 1-2 weeks earlier.

Checked them, for 4 boxes they ended up 60 happen cheaper dans discount lens.ch, but for fewer boxes they were slightly more expensive. Didn't go through with the order so I don't know about delivery time and payment terms.

Might try them, but right now I'm just extremely happy about speed of delivery from discount lens.ch. I have a strong prescription (-8.00 and -9.00) and where I used to order they never had them in stock.

BTW, you can opt for Faktura with discount lens.ch, which I find reassuring on a first order since I don't need to pay before actually receiving the product.

Re: Questions about buying contact lenses online in CH

I get my eyes checked every 2 years at Pfister Optik and use their lowest price guarantee to buy the lenses from them, at 1 CHF cheaper as it would be ordering online in my home country (up to 50% off).

Remarkably they don't take into account any shipping, taxes or whatever - they just accept a screenshot and FX conversion of the cheapest possible online vendor in my home country.

They don't like it and once they even asked the manager, but they do accept it.

Disclaimer: Last time i did this was a couple of years ago - things might have changed.
