Questions about buying contact lenses online in CH

I'm getting to the end of my supply of contact lenses and would like to order them online in Switzerland. Does anyone know how it works here? I already went to a Swiss optometrist and have a prescription.

I found a 2007 EF thread on this subject, but I was wondering if anyone has more recent info.

My new look if I don't order some contact lenses soon.

Thanks!

Re: Questions about buying contact lenses online in CH

I buy mine from UK, www.contactforlenses.com. They send each box in a separate envelope so they are under the tax free limit as well. at least the kind I use is significantly cheaper than on any swiss site.

Not sure about pricing as I don't (yet ) wear glasses or contacts.

I know that Ottos webstore sells a certain range. Here is the link that should get you there. EN/FR/D languages are available.

Re: Questions about buying contact lenses online in CH

Thanks for all of the responses and many thanks for offering to get a discount for me J.L-P!

I looked at all of the websites and am going to try Ullainga's suggestion because Contact for Lenses offers my lenses (Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism) at about Sfr 20 less per box than the Swiss websites. Otto's has a fairly wide choice of lenses, but they don't sell lenses for astigmatism. They do sell contact lense cleaner at what looks to be a fairly reasonable price. I still have a supply from the States, so I'm not sure how much it normally costs here.

Thanks again!

Re: Questions about buying contact lenses online in CH

I'm a tight git and I checked out the buying online scenario last autumn.
The difference was minimal. I think CHF90 online, and CHF95 from Visiolab in Basel for 60 lenses.
Maybe I should have looked harder or considered a higher quantity.

Cost of my lenses per box

Sfr. 72 from my optometrist in CH
Sfr. 62.50 from the CH website
Sfr. 42 from the UK website (plus shipping if the order is under GBP 100)

But since my lenses are already very expensive, any difference in price adds up because I need about 8 boxes a year.

Yeah, I was going to suggest the UK option as well. I wear Oasys (though no astigmatism) and paid 112.57 including shipping for 48 lenses only a few weeks ago. I use www.visiondirect.co.uk

Re: Questions about buying contact lenses online in CH

Does anyone know if Acuvue Oasys and Advance are interchangable? I currently use Advance, but would like to try Oasys this time around since they seem to have better oxygen permeation and moisture retention qualities. I know you should really see your optician first, but I'm just too lazy

Haven't tried Advance, but I swapped my Oasys lenses for TruEye - silicone hydrogel daily lenses. The best.

They are a little different in their radius measurements otherwise the Oasys are wetter (slimey for me).

I switched to Oasys from Advance after seeing my optometrist. There's a big difference in the comfort factor when I'm looking at a computer screen for a long time, flying, or drinking wine.

My optometrist said to remember to blink when working on the computer. She said that people don't blink as much when they're working (or posting on EF!) as when they're doing something else. So, remember to blink!

Re: Questions about buying contact lenses online in CH

I am going to buy contacts from Oz as my last prescription was there and it's the easiest option at the moment as i am in a rush. however, what is the tax free import allowance for the number of dailies??
i don't want to go and collect the lenses and be hit with a big bill

Re: Questions about buying contact lenses online in CH

It's worth noting that when you order online in Switzerland they don't ask for any proof of your prescription. As long as you have the prescription info, you can order the lenses you need and away you go. (In contrast, I think back when I lived in the US I had to give the contact details of my optometrist for verification when I ordered online.)

I order online from mrlens.ch and it's really easy. I especially like that they send you a bill you can pay after delivery, so you don't need a credit card to order.

Also worth noting for the tax-free limit on imports, they count the cost of postage as part of the 65 CHF.

Re: Questions about buying contact lenses online in CH

Hi (I'm honestly not a rep for 1800 !)

If you don't live in the US then you don't need to send in the prescription.

The lenses I bought this morning were 35 USD per box. Exactly the same lenses (they're all made in the same factory in Ireland) at mrlens.ch are 76.80 chfs per box.
