I'm from NZ, my partner is from Scotland and we are obviously both living in Switzerland and we are planning on getting married sometime in the near-ish future.

There are bound to be a few other couples on here from opposite sides of the world who tied the knot. How did you go about it with regards to choosing the location, family and friends (incl. travel expenses?), planning from afar etc.?

Simple question, simple answer: Two parties! (Otherwise one side would clearly lose as you cannot ship all old friends you would like to see there over this distance...)
