Mothers, mums, moms in Neuchatel

Hi all,

I'm new in Neuchatel, have moved here from sunny Sydney, Australia with my husband (who is working in Zurich, its a long commute but he has all his family here) and my 1-year old darling son.

I could not find anything in this forum or on the internet for English speaking mothers in the Neuchatel region. Please contact me if you would like to start a English speaking mothers group or would just like to chat to another English speaking mum! We currently do not have a car so I'm really looking to make contacts with people in the Neuchatel area.
Cheers

Re: Mothers, mums, moms in Neuchatel

Hi! Strange that no one has replied to you.

I would also love to meet other moms in the area. I live in Lugnorre which is just above Lake Murten (the other tiny lake right next to Neuchatel). I have a car and will gladly come to you or meet you somewhere. I have an 11 month old son who I'm sure would love to meet a new playmate.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Hey, I know this post is from quite a while back, but was wondering if you'd found any English speaking mums and baby/toddler groups around Neuchatel? I'm living in Jura, but Neuchatel isnt that far from me, would so like to meet some other mums!!

I am moving to Neuchatel in May and having a baby in September...
I would love to be a part of an english-speaking mum's group.
Let me know if I can do anything to help get this organized!

Well just wanting to get involved is the best thing so far! I'm keeping my eyes and ears open! My little girl will be just over 1 by then, but I'd be happy to meet up (and help you with anything if I can!) Hope you're enjoying your pregnancy so far

Good idea! Definately message me if you think I might be able to help with anything! You've got a bit of a way off yet, but it seems like you've got a lot on with moving here in May! Will you be moving here with a partner?

i am moving here with my partner. he's going to be a stay at home dad while i work in neuchatel.

any help finding an OB would be helpful... and what to make sure to ask the provider... there's been a lot of talk about who does epidurals and who doesn't... i don't plan to have one, but i want to make sure that i am somewhere that i have options and good care.
ideally an english-speaking doctor because i can speak enough french to get by
but if i am in pain, i think that i will want to speak english!

thanks!

Sorry I can't be of much help with finding healthcare here, I gave birth back in England. I'm sure they're people on here who know of and can recommend some English speaking Doctors though. I will ask around though. I hope you'll find a good team here. It's important that there's good communication, and that's better if it's in language you feel happy communicating in... whilst in pain! I didn't have any pain relief, but that doesn't mean I wasn't yelling out for it... (It's okay though I wasn't hysterical) but it's good to be prepared! I did meet a girl that wanted pain-relief, but never asked- she thought it had to be offered.... I don't understand how she could have been so shy!

Hello,

I am an expat mom from Bienne ( 30km from Neuchatel) and am quite involved in Neuchatel's expat like as my company is offering Spouse career service in Neuchatel, fribourg and Bienne region.
I'd just like to invite you to have a look to what few ladies have done in fribourg: http://www.fewgroup.org/home : I find this great!
I believe the interest in such kind of group is as big in Neuchatel as in Fribourg. I am also sure that you can also atract audience from Bienne, Morat and Yverdon and also La chaux de fond, le Locle etc. From what I heard so far, the interest is there, only the organisation is missing.
I can offer my help to start up a women/mother group in Neuchatel.
I have just seen on this forum that there's a drink organised on February the 3rd, If you have someone to babysit, what about joining the forming group and meeting there, I believe the offered time is 7pm. I will come alone or with friends from Bienne but probably a little bit latter.
What about signing in directly on the invitation?
I look very forward meeting you all there.
Greeting,

Sandrine

Sandrine!

This group looks great! Thanks for the link...

I would love to try to organize something similar in Neuchatel. Sadly, I won't be in Neuchatel 'til spring but maybe once I get there (or if others want to do it ahead of time that's great too) we can see if we can all meet and try to get this sort of group going in Neuchatel! I would also love to attend social gatherings in Bienne.

Any one else want to help organize such a group? What events would interest you? I like the idea of movie night... also I think it would be fun to have dinner nights where we can either cook together, potluck, or one person hosts people for dinner.
Thoughts?

Bugheart, good luck in Neuch, it is a cute little town, very laid back.

I had Dr Praz as Ob/Gyn

he was very patient and if I remember well spoke some English. Everybody was booked out, but he was nice and took me in eventhough he was so busy. The prenatal courses in the Neuch hosp were ok, a lot of formal stuff, but there are better teachers to pick from. The best were pregnancy water work outs I did in a thermal spa pool nearby hospital, fantastic for fitness and all, the doc will give you relevant info when you check in.

Re: Mothers, mums, moms in Neuchatel

Hi Sandrine,

Is there something in Bienne for English speaking mothers?
I moved here a year ago from NYC, had a baby who's now 10 months and am having a really hard time connecting with other mothers like me.
Do you know of anything here so I can get out once in awhile to socialize with someone other than my husband or how I can find day time help with the baby etc.

Would love to hear back from you!

Mothers, mums, moms in Neuchatel - help!

Mothers, mums, moms in Neuchatel...

I need a little help...
I have been trying to navigate through all the things that
I need to get done before the birth of my first baby
but I am feeling overwhelmed with only 3 months to go.
I would love to meet with any moms who have given birth in the last year or so, especially at Pourtales hospital so that could show me the ropes.
If you live in Neuchatel and have time to chat,
I would really appreciate some advice about now.

Thanks so much!
Gwen

Re: Mothers, mums, moms in Neuchatel

Hi Gwen - I live in the Neuchatel Jura, about 30km from Neuchatel town. I was born here, but went to UK aged 19 for 6 months and stayed.. 41 years, married to a Brit. Now he is retired, we are living back in CH again. I had my 2 daughters in UK, and am now a grand-mother of 2 little ones near London.
So, can't help with info on Pourtalès- but if I can be of any help or support- do get in touch. I remember only too well having my 2 born away from my family in a 'foreign' country. Best regards Odile

For yarn and materials + deco store- there is a great one in Peseux in an old factory. Can't remember the name just now- maybe Creasphere- will check.

Edit, yes that was right www.creasphere.com

Re: Mothers, mums, moms in Neuchatel

Hi Gwen,

I live just up the road in La Neuveville. I am also due in September but will be having the baby in Biel. Other than going to my regular doctor visits, I have prepared nothing. The birthing clinic I am going to gave me a list of what I should bring to the hospital which includes things such as our passports and other identification paperwork so we can fill out forms when the baby comes.

What things are you worried about that need to get done before baby comes? I think you can fill out forms for passports, permits, etc once baby is already here. The only thing I am planning on doing beforehand is adding the baby to our insurance and then gathering the right paperwork to bring to the hospital.

I'm not a new mum by any means as my 'baby' is 11 already but I'm happy to meet up for a coffee and a chat.
I can't give you specific advice about the hospital here but I may be able to give you some poiters about things you need to do.

We'll be on holiday for the next couple of weeks but PM if you want to meet up after that.
