I hv been in switzerland for almost 2 and a half months to join my boyfriend for he is based in switzerland. He is German. Right now I am one month pregnant. I am unable to get insurance here as I am not EU. My boyfriend proposed marriage to me and I said yes. The process that we have to go through to get registered in switzerland is a long process... 3 mths. With the stress of travelling back and forth is gonna cause me so much stress and I am afraid I am gonna lose this baby. I am willing to pay cash (if me and my boyfriend have enough for this delivery in switzerland.)
Consider me a layman with laws in switzerland. I need help and advise for the,
1. cost of just consultation and ultrasound with OB
2. Cost of giving birth
3. Will things be better if we get registered in malaysia

Please help... this has been worrying me very much

May I suggest you to check again with health insurance companies ?


Insurance is not depending on EU or non-EU ! If you have a valid Residence Permit for Switzerland, then there is no chance of "NO" as health insurance is must for all.

Some health insurers cover all your expences ?

You still have 8 to 9 months for delivery, so why don't you happily marry and allow things to settle by itself

I seriously doubt whether forum members can give you a total cost estimate as you ask. Since this is always paid by the insurance, so people wouldn't pay attention in detail.

But I would suggest you speak to a hospital or doctor, they might be able to provide you with better information.

As the previous poster suggested, I'm not sure why you are pursuing the route of considering paying for all this yourself, it just doesn't make much sense. You original assumptions seem to be wrong, you should inform yourself a little more.

I can't tell without digging out all my bills but my pregnancy cost quite a few thousand and that was without the big hospital bill at the end for the c-section. Once you are registered here you have to have medical insurance and that insurance has to cover you for pregnancy. It will only be basic cover but that is more than enough.

Hi there. I moved to Geneva when I was two months pregnant. I am also not an EU citizen.I had no problem getting insurance,though pregnancy pre-existing did make the instalments more expensive. You can go to the companies and check what all types are available and buy the one you can afford. It can be very expensive to pay on your own as there are minimum of 8 visits and ultrasounds in the entire period( for a normal delivery) plus a lot of blood tests. You should find a doctor and an insurance company or try the local general hospital. Wish you all the best.
