Moving out

Hi there,

I am from a 3rd country and hold a B permit that's valid for 5 yrs. I have been married to my partner for 2.5yrs now (though I have been only living in Switzerland for about 1 yr 8months).

As my marriage is now on the rocks, I would like to move out of our matrimonial home temporarily to a nearby canton (Zurich) and perhaps let things cool down abit. I would like to know, whether is this possible? Do I have to inform my current Gemeinde?

Thanks for your advice!
Macky

ps: I work in canton Zurich

Moving out

I forgot to ask too, how long can a binational couple live separately (in 2 different cantons) ?

I understand that, if I inform the authorities before my 3yr marriage is up, my permit will not be extended should my partner and I decide to go for divorce. Even though I really like my job and company alot, and if worse come to worse (divorce), I would be ready to move on with my life and return to my country. However, I would like to know, how long can a binational couple live separately in 2 different houses, and how fast is divorce finalised?

Thanks!

Re: Moving out

I had a friend who was resident in one canton and worked in Zurich. She had to ask in Zurich if she could move. I think they said no the first time. She had to get a letter from her employer that she was on call and needed to be close to the office.

The at the end of her 5 years on a B permit she tried to apply for a C permit, Zurich canton said they did not count the 3 years in the other canton. Don't apply for another 3 years. Second hand info. only.

Yes you have to inform your gemeinde of moving away. They care as this is where you pay your taxes. You will also have to register at the new gemeinde.

With regards to the rest, it would be better if you asked some more informed people- like those in your HR department, than these guys, who will give you 3 different opinions on everything.

Re: Moving out

Actually, I am not really thinking about getting a C permit for the moment. But much more, whether it is possible to live separately in 2 different cantons (reason being that, we are living separately pending divorce), and if possible, how long can this official separation living last? Because worse come to worse, I need time to find a job in another country too.
