Toy Story 3

Well.... I am is such deep squishy brown stuff only you guys can possibly save me.

My kids LOVE Toy Story. Completely obsessed. And I promised them we could go watch it at the kino on Saturday. This would have been their first ever trip to the cinema. They have been excited about it all week.

And now I find out that it's not on any more in English . I only found one listing in the whole of Switzerland for an English showing - and it's in Zurich and it's the 3D version (which is no good as the kids are too young for that and would never keep glasses on.)

Anybody save my bacon and tell me I've missed some secret listing???

They will be so gutted if we can't go
Honestly don't know how I'm going to make it up to them.

Re: Toy Story 3

How old are they? I took my son (3yrs old) to see this as his first movie and we saw it in 3D. He did great once he realized he didn't need to look through the top of the glasses to watch the movie.

Ok, please don't shoot me for this suggestion BUT...

Maybe take them to see it anyhow? Even if it isn't in English, a lot of the stuff is "physical" humor and depending on how old they are, they may enjoy it anyhow?

Re: Toy Story 3

can you go to a 3D cinema but still watch the film without glasses? I took my 6 year old to see toys stiry 3 in france ( her first time ever to the cinema!) but we saw it on a tiny screen because I did not want to take her to watch 3D on her first time.

Now, i'd like her to see Samy but in Bern, it's also 3D.

It did cross my mind actually to save my parental "mummy lied to me" bacon as it were but I just don't think they'd like it - although they can both speak a lot more German than me (!) I think if they weren't so "into" it then I would do that - but I think it might be even more disappointing for them to not see Buzz speaking in his proper voice if you know what I mean..... I dunno, I have to think about it....

Re: Toy Story 3

I really don't think we can do 3D - my younger son has an eye problem (a defect of the retina) which means he likely wouldn't be able to see anything even if he kept the glasses on. And he's 3. I just don't think it would work for him.

I'm gonna have a look for listings in Germany & France now though!!!

I'd not even thought about that part of it.

I wonder (going to look ) what the voices sound like in German.

Hmmm...

Brb!

Hi guys ,my friends and I went to take our kiddies to see it in Dietilkon - 2D version (they are 4) and were refused entry as they had to be 6 in Switzerland to go to the cinema - kids were gutted as you can imagine, were we told wrong? or are all your kids over 4?
If you have managed to see it with a 4year old please tell me where!

Re: Toy Story 3

Ok, here is the trailer in German, it has a bit of everyone talking...

Maybe "test drive" the voices and language to see what the kids think?

Also, zurich99, I have heard about kids that young being refused entry before. I'm sorry, I don't know anything about the theaters with regard to "kid friendly" policies.

Most of the the theater "attendants" at my local Pathé seem to speak English, maybe the same goes for the various theaters near you and you can ask if they maybe have a special viewing time for the youngins? Or ask what it would take to have one set up?

No way - that absolutely sucks. Poor you!

I think that's an "it depends" answer though - some cinemas have restrictions on what age at what time of showing - so evening showings of kids films are sometimes restricted but when I asked (last week - doh - why didn't we go last week!!) they said there was no age restriction for the showing I had planned to go to (why didn't they say "yes but it's only on this week though!!!") - although she did say TS3 is recommended age 4 and up.

Thanks, maybe i'll scout a few more out cinemas before telling the kids this time see if i have any luck!

Re: Toy Story 3

Well, I've searched everywhere I can think and I believe I'm going to have to just suck it up and tell the truth I suppose I can try and sell it as some kind of life lesson i.e. "sometimes even Mummy messes up too!"

[secretly I am quite disappointed myself cos I really wanted to see it too ]

Re: Toy Story 3

Hi guys,

Ususally in CH movies are released both in their original version (with subtitles) and translated. However, cinemas usually keep the OV only for a week or two, and then take it off to give the slot to a new movie. Thus if you want to see your movies in English you have to hurry!

In Lausanne, I've been able to go see Ice Age 3 with my 3-year old. But I know that some cinemas have an age limit. Also, some movies, like Harry Potter, do not allow kids under a certain age, even if accompanied with an adult.

Re: Toy Story 3

According to IMDB the certificate for Toy Story 3 in Switzerland (Vaud and Geneva listed only), is 0.

Looks like a cinema restriction.

With Basel, I've noticed that you have to be quick. Generally it's English for a week. Sometimes you get the 1st and 3rd week. I saw TS3 a few weeks ago (3D, English). The cinema was half empty. They missed a trick on the subtitles though. When one character started speaking spanish, they translated it into German and French.

Yes, it's hard when you can't fulfill your promises to the little ones sometimes but tell them in just a few short months they will be able to watch it over and over and over and over..

Alternatively, we have a nice pirated version of it at home, and we all saw the movie nicely sat on our sofa

It's showing in the Pathé cinema in Lausanne (just opposite the station) in English until the 29th. Dunno if that is any help...

(oh, and not in 3D either...)

Ooooo that is interesting thank you! I'll have a look into that (gonna check the age thing after all the previous posts!) - it's a bit far to go from here but we might be able to make a daytrip of it.

Kingdom-Release, right?

I'm the last to throw the first stone, but I'm pretty sure that piracy is the reason why movies are mostly German now in cinemas.

Re: Toy Story 3

In Geneva it is also showing in English, but think that may be too far for you.

You can use this site to search in Switzerland, by title, by place, by language, etc. http://www.cine.ch

It seems there is an English version showing in Biel/Bienne, which is probably doable from Basel.
