Swiss married to B Permit holder - tax??

Hi there

If I am a Swiss citizen and I am married to a B Permit holder - do we get taxed as a couple and if so how does that work if he is taxed at source and I am not?

Please can you refer me in the right direction as this all seems quite complicated.

We have both secured positions in Zurich starting Nov 07 and are relocating from South Africa. We will be living in Zurich canton.

Your advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Tanya

"If" one of you is Swiss and you are married, I am 99% sure you will be taxed as a married couple in the 'Swiss' way (ie not at source and after the completion of a tax form you will be sent a bill).

I moved here 18 years ago and my wife was Swiss. She took employment here and I was granted a B permit. We were taxed as a couple as you describe.

Irrespective of your status ie Swiss and B permit etc if one of you is either entitled to be or has been taxed normally ie not PAYE then both of you are taxed in that way. This can also happen as the result of two foreigners marrying with one taxed ordinarily and the other PAYE - post marriage both are taxed ordinarily and also jointly.

He shouldn't be taxed at source, I had the same problem until I sent my HR this link referring them to Section A, Point 1, second paragraph

Re: Swiss married to B Permit holder - tax??

Hmm, my situation is that my Wife (swiss is currently working). Myself (a Brit) I'm about to start working next week. So I should be on a B permit.

According to the above thread. We as a couple will get taxed ordinarily and I will not be taxed at source?

Re: Swiss married to B Permit holder - tax??

Hello!
You will be considered tax declarers and taxed as a couple. I advise you and your wife to tell your companies asap to prevent them taking tax from your salaries.

You will need to fill a tax declaration which you get at the beginning of the year following the tax year.

Cheers,
Cristina
