Re: Can you keep Swiss bank account if you move?

I have accounts with Postfinance and a mortgage with them .
In an informal discussion with them about a possible leaving of the country : I got some good answers to my hypothetical questions :

Yes I could keep my privat account ( current ) account but fees would be 10CHF per month: I asked if this would be negotiable hypothetically and was told as these fees were much less than UBS and CS, probably not.

I was told my mortgage was portable and did not need to be paid up but only because I was moving to a hypothetically approved location in EU. ( the list of countries was not the whole EU )

My savings accounts would be closed : but given rate of interest I will get on these in next years I did not see hardship .

My children could retain their accounts but at same charge as above : so these are likely ( hypothetically )to be closed :

Any interest etc earned in Switzerland would need to have tax paid here .

So I guess this might lead to a tax declaration requirement ? As I will need to complete one anyway ( mortgage etc ) , this is less of issue for me : but if I just kept money here would I need to complete an annual tax form ? And if so which Canton ?

So any hypothetical answers out there ?

This is not really the question for you to ask, the question is more for the bank to ask whether they want to keep you ! (think big figures)

But your bank statements would be delivered to the original address. Someone else lives there would see your secrets. How did you prevent that from happening.

you can receive everything electronically nowadays. also you can deviate your post for a fee. But he said he's paying a mortgage, so he probably has a property house with his address on it and maybe a friendly renter, btw i think it's a crime to open post of other people.

Anyway when i moved abroad i saw my bank changed the address, don't know how they found out but they didn't say anything, but it was just a small savings account.

Re: Can you keep Swiss bank account if you move?

You can keep your bank account here if you move back to the UK but if you're American and move back to the US you would have to get rid of the account with CS or bank with an SEC registered firm.

Re: Can you keep Swiss bank account if you move?

I read somewhere that in the case of moving (or cashing out) a Swiss pension, you can actually keep that account open if you relocate to Austria, Italy, Germany or France. But you may want to double check that.

There won't be any issue, just increased charges. I aim to close all but 1 account before I give a new address, however I could give an address in CH & not pay any charges

As usual the Swiss banks pick and choose and will probably expect you to pay for that service!
