Hi, I'm inquiring on behalf of someone who's having problems withdrawing funds from her bank in Ireland via ATMs in Switzerland. Her card has the cirrus/maestro logo on the back and she has tried debiting funds from ATMs with those logos on it but to no avail. She has funds in the account of course!

Anybody had similar problems, or knows what it could be?

Maestro Switzerland is not the same as Maestro rest of Europe. I had the same problems. Try a Visa or Mastercard instead.

It should work. My AIB Maestro/cirrus card works here and I have friends who have used their BOI cards here too. She should phone her bank. The only ATM's it might not work on is the Post Finance ones.

I have exactly the same card (BOI laser) and it has always worked fine. Only tried the BCV ATM's in Vaud though.

Yeah, the Maestro system should work fine - I've used my Swiss maestro in other countries (including Ireland) with no problem, and friends of mine from other countries have used their Maestro cards here with no problems.

Best bet is, as somebody already suggested, to contact the bank in question ...

Did she pay anything with the card itself before going ot the ATM? Number of banks block cards right away if you do not notify them of traveling (not sure if this is with her bank). Best bet is call the bank and ask which ATM's she can use.

Just adding that my BOI card works fine at both atm's and merchants.
