Please rate salary package and help!! [175K, 2 adults+2 kids, Zürich]

All

I will be moving to Zurich this year and am on a package of 175K CHF net. I have a family of 4- wife and 2 kids aged 5 and 1. I want to know if my package is enough to get a good 4 bedroom flat, send kids to good private schools and get 2 cars. Also what is the tax system for that package for someone in zurich?

Also good areas to live- I will be working in the City...we are city people but my consider living outside as well

Many thanks

Tiger

Apparently, it's not sufficient to learn to use the search function...or their time is much much more valuable than everyone else's.

Don't worry it will be enough

If you are earning 175K NET don't bother with the tax system at all

Re: Please rate salary package and help!! [175K, 2 adults+2 kids, Zürich]

If you're looking for 4 bedrooms in the city you'd be googling for a 5.5 or 6 room flat (4 bedrooms + living/dining). Prices will start at around CHF 4.5K per month. You can, of course, buy 2 cars but that would be pretty pointless if you're living in town (excellent public transportation, scarce parking possibilites and garages start at around CHF 400 each per month).

There are loads of threads dealing with international vs. swiss schools (although for the 1 yr old it may be a bit too soon for that).

Take the time to use the search function on EF - your questions have been asked and answered many, many times.

BTW, welcome to EF

Kinda worrying that one can get to a position with that sort of package attached without knowing whether said package is good or not for the local market.

Re: Please rate salary package and help!! [175K, 2 adults+2 kids, Zürich]

private schools are eye wateringly expensive here, and mainly populated by pupils where the parents employers have paid for it, which make them take the piss with fee's even more.
Local schools are by and large excellent, so no real need to bother with private, when we looked the yearly fee's didn't seem too bad, but all the other fee's quickly mounted up, and none of the private schools where very honest or upfront about them, we had to dig to find out the actual bottom line.

I too am concidering moving. I still have a few billion of my savings left (if I can get hold of them). Is it possible to survive in Switzerland? I won't bring my son along though as he has got himself into a few scrapes with e swiss police in the past. Thank you in advance. Mr Gadaffi!

Re: Please rate salary package and help!! [175K, 2 adults+2 kids, Zürich]

Well this top is discussed several time in the forum. It certainly is a good salary (with respect to average earning, not coming on your specific job).
Try this
Cost of living - help needed to get it right

On the specifics it depends how much you want to send on individual items. like

Appartment with 4 beds in Zurich region can be from CHF 3K to 5K
Cost of International / Private schools can be CHF 2 to 3 K (considering one Kid in school)
Two cards including Lease and Insurance could be CHF 1500 to CHF 2500 (You might need to pay up some upfront)
Grocery + Other could be from CHF 1K to CHF 2.5K depends in your life style
Health Insurance CHF 800 to CHF 1200

So all in all you are talking CHF 8.5K and above. Now your 175K is net or gross. You said net meaning after all deductions like taxes etc then you are very fine. If it is 175K gross, meaning subjected to Deductions like Pension taxes etc then you are taking about 11K cash in hand which is still good. But if this includes 13th Salary or bonus then your cash flow will be less.

But here you can make adjustments like only one car, spend cautiously on grocery and outing. Still it is a very decent salary.

Swiss cost of living is available on many internet sites and also on this forum. Also, it is nice and polite to introduce yourself first!

Pointless indeed.

Let me guess - you work in finance and help people decide on what investments are more appropriate for them.
