How would you prove to the Swiss tax office, what the income is for an ageing relative in the UK?

Situation ... as you know, you are able to send money to an overseas relative, to provide them financial assistance and then declare this as a tax deduction here in Switzerland.

The Swiss tax office will accept my deduction, providing I can demonstrate that my retired father, has total income less than CHF15K in 2010.

He does not file a tax return, so what would you suggest to be the most appropriate document that I could submit to the tax office, or do you think verbally would be sufficient?

Bank statement?

Ask him to file a tax return. Does he get any social security? Failing those, could he swear an Affidavit ?

Problem is, I would have to provide the 12 bank statements for 2010 because ...

1) The bank doesn't seem to provide an end of year statement/summary (like here in Switzerland)

2) Even if they did provide such a summary, it would be based on the UK tax year which from memory starts April 6th (which personally I always found very strange).

Bit late for the tax return thing, as I need to provide the evidence for 2010, plus the Swiss tax office has only given me 7 days to provide requested the evidence.

First thing. Ask for an extension to reply, explaining that the UK system doesn't do things the way the Swiss do things.
