XE or OANDA

Hi folks

I want to convert CHF to Sterling in big chunks every now and then as most of my expenses are still in UK and I think sterling will perform better than CHF now that SNB have pegged themselves to the sinking ship (I mean Euro).

I heard XE gives a better rate than OANDA, is that correct? I am a little confused as the rate quoted on the front page is different to once you log into your account. I have just set up an account with XE and seemed fairly easy to do (OANDA have been taking forever to set up). However, the quote I get from XE once I log into my XE account is worse than the OANDA (that's if you go their currency convertor without having an account with them http://www.oanda.com/currency/converter/

Just wondered if anyone has any recent experience with these two. I mean who has the best deal these days? Thanks in advance.

Re: XE or OANDA

The trading rate on XE is also different from their ticker. They just embed their commission in their trading rate.

I personally use XE and never had a problem. The deposit to the destination currency always happen the next day. Maybe someone else can comment on Oanda.

Re: XE or OANDA

I used Oanda a couple of weeks ago... never used xe.

They asked for a number of documents to verify identity, etc., but the transfer itself was quite smooth. They try to make it as error-proof as possible, particularly the transfer into the Oanda account.

Rateswise, it was my understanding Oanda offered better rates than Xe, which is why I use them... flat 25 dollar fee, with the exchange rate being the same as the interbank one. Works great for large amounts (> 2k ?), though for smaller amounts, probably not so good.
