Pension & losing job!

Hi,
I have had a search around the forum but most questions seem to be about taking the pension out of Switzerland.

I have been working in switzerland for 3 years and have a company pension - however, I might lose my job and I was wondering what happens?!
If I get a new job, I can transfer but what happens if I dont?

Many thanks

Re: Pension & losing job!

You can put your old pension in a freezed account in any bank. If you start a new job just transfer the amount to your new pension. If you dont transfer, it stays freezed, unless you buy a house, move out of the country etc...

Re: Pension & losing job!

If you stay in Switzerland after losing your job, you can keep it in hock either at the former employer or at the cantonal pension fund (if you do nothing, it will get transferred to the cantonal one automatically after a certain time, I did that once when I switched jobs and forgot to transfer). If you leave Switzerland, you can cash it out if you provide the current fund with proof you are leaving, your employer will tell you that as part of any exit interview.

Courage for the job situation tho! I know how it feels

You should go to a bank and ask for a 'Freizügigkeitskonto 2. Säule' or search the internet. Shop around to get the best interest rates, choosing the wrong account can cost you a lot of money if you leave it on there for a long time. The accounts are usually free of charge, and do not have to be with your current bank.

Good luck!

Re: Pension & losing job!

I found the Post Finance offer to be the best for parking your Pension money. Normally your ex employer would keep it only for a certain period, say 6 months. If you dont decide what to do with by then, its gets transferred to a Pension fund of the ex employers choice, and, as others have said there are charges. Look around and decide for yourself.
