I have recently found a job having spent about a year in Switzerland.
I was registered at the local unemployement office but I don't think they make the contributions towards AVS
Does anyone know if it is possible to pay the AVS for the duration that I was unemployed now that I am earning? Would this be done at the town hall?

If you were receiving some form of unemployment benefit while you were unemployed then they did pay your AVS. If you were registered unemployed and did not receive any AVS then the town hall paid it. Either way it was paid.

Oh and I forgot. With AHV/AVS you pay your dues for the current time and you cannot make back payments. Not strictly true if you are a business but generally this is the case.
