How much money does it take?

Hello my fiance and I want to move to Zurich for a while.....longer than 3 month......and I have no employment contract........so my question is how much money do I have to deposit in a Swiss bank account to be allowed to stay longer than 3 months? Do I have to convert US dollars to Swiss Francs? Does the money have to stay in the account......if so for how long?

thank you in advance......Michael and Tabitha

Re: How much money does it take?

I think you may want to talk to the Swiss government and find out from them, since the banks don't allow you to stay and the government wont either since for having money in Switzerland. Visitors visa for longer than 3 months may be hard to buy.

Re: How much money does it take?

If you want to have a Swiss resident permit purely as a result of your wealth (a la Shania Twain) then you're probably going to need at least CHF 10 million in the bank. I suggest contacting your local Swiss Embassy well in advance of relocating to Switzerland, to determine whether that's sufficient and what other things that they need. You would still need a clearance from the Fremdenpolizei etc etc.

If you don't have that sort of dosh then you're going to need a work permit. Here's a good place to look for information on that.

How do YOU know that?
Are you one of those Shania Twain types?
No but seriously, are there hidden rules for people of great wealth? (out of curiosity)

No you are not. They can get the 6 month permit which comes with no obligation to do any work whatsoever. You simply stay for 6 months and then clear off.

As for the 10Mio, you can get a residence permit for considerably less, you will only need the Euro 5 Mio to get a passport next week a la Monaco.

But he is asking about converting his US dollars.

Perhaps he is Spanish, living in Atlanta and his chick is a US citizen?

I do not have an EU passport.......I was forced to renounce my dual citizenship because of my father's US government work.......so I am American........I have US dollars to convert and my fiance is aslo American.......is have been in contact with a particular Swiss friend of mine and he says the Canton of Zurich allows a certain amount of people to become residents and even purchase property without the normal procedures on a case by case basis.......we shall see........someone said I have transfer 10million SF to make this happen.....I found out yesterday I only have to show 80,000 SF a year in income from passive investments to get a resident permit.......I also have found that different people have different numbers.

Yes. It is a case by case thing. Your best bet is just to try and make your case to the authorities where you want to live. If you have money in the bank, getting dividends & will be working as a consultant, outside of Switzerland (ie. you won't be taking a Swiss person's or EU person's job), then you have a good chance to make your case.

I would recommend that you get an agency/lawyer to do this for you.

Since you are non-EU you can stay for 90 days then leave for 30 days and come back for 90 days with in 360 days.
