Tax returns 2011 DIY - need some help please

Hi There,

This year, I want to make a try filling my own tax returns (as cost of filing is "prohibitively" high) and would like some kind soul to let me know,

a) where to find the official year-end values of shares to use in the tax returns form
b) official euro to CHF and euro to USD conversion rate. I have observed that my last tax account use different conversion rates depending on when the bank interest / dividend was issued.

Thanks in advance

Your bank should send you statements as of 31st Dec showing your holdings for both your currencies and stocks in a tax friendly format.

You can find them here: http://www.ictax.admin.ch/2011/de/

For assets and bank account balances at as 31.12.2011, you use the "Devisen per 31.12.2011" on the right hand side. For income/expenses you use the average value called "Jahresmittelkurse".

Hope that helps.

Well done for attempting it yourself. I was quoted an insane amount to complete tax declarations by two different accountants. Most of the work was getting all the paperwork together, filling in the form online takes me an hour or so.

Hi Marie

How to declare share assests for which there is no official number called "Valor" that is required in the swiss tax form ... for example, this share with ISIN code - NL0000387058, doesn't have a Valor number that is recognized by the EasyTax software.

Thanks in advance

Ashish

If you look up the security on a Swiss banks trading platform you will see the valor no. Sometimes I just leave it blank, the tax Office can look it up themselves if it's really important ! What do we pay taxes for lol

Swiss tax forms I am assuming?
If so, excuse my ignorance, what do you need usd conversion for?

Generally speaking, most tax authorities require use of an average rate for comp, then interest, divs etc spot rate, but averages are sometimes used if no fixed date

oanda.com is a trusted source for fxr conv.

I use the day rate of the transaction spot rates just like the Swiss Post sgare dealing platform. It was definately in my favour last year, Zurich accepted my figures even through my tax certificate from SCHWAB just had 1 figure in USD.

Re: Tax returns 2011 DIY - need some help please

How to declare this situation in tax returns.

I opted to receive x number of shares at a reduced rate instead of dividend, when that option was offered to me ...

But the company who issued these shares, first credited the dividend money into my bank account (with 35% tax deducted - company in France) and then debited the remaining amount the same day and issued me in shares (like I wanted).

Should I declare like I received dividend or shares?

Thanks in advance once again.

Ashish
