| Basel Stadt all day long, especially if you actually work in the City. Consider that you'll be travelling to/from the airport twice a week, if you live in BL its a longer commute (train/bus) and if you live in France/Germany then you'll have to drive to the airport and weekend parking is expensive. The other advantages of BS is that there is more to do/see, major supermarkets close at 20:00 (22:00 at the station).
So the few hundred that you may save by living in BL will be wiped out by the extra costs and general inconvenience. | |

Hmm. Just a matter of different reference point. Allschwil and Binningen have grown into one continuum with BaselStadt that it really does not make a lot of difference travelling from these two villages to the interesting places in BS. From Basel Badische Bahnhof (Basel Bad) you can get into Allschwil with tram 6 in 25 minutes. Same for Binningen with the tram or bus.
Of course, if you choose the outer edges of Baselland it will take more than 1 hour by car to get anywhere near BS.
Major supermarkets in Allschwil and Binningen close as well at 20:00 pm. I commute daily from Allschwil to the Novartis Campus by bicycle. Pedalling would take me 30 minutes, with my motor switched on it is 15 minutes. With the current weather (snow-covered streets) it is 20 minutes.
I do admit that travelling to the airport takes longer. I usually take a taxi, especially with the extremely early departure times of some of the flights (06.15am London City).
Just a different viewpoint.
