Geneva - Quasi Resident Status and Tax Reclaim

Hi,

I am a frontalier living in France and working in Geneva. I've been looking into claiming 'quasi-resident' status, which would allow me to reclaim my frontalier related expenses over the past year in the form of a tax rebate.

Has anybody been through this process? I want to ensure that i can claim my expenses before applying, because otherwise i may end up paying more tax.

One such expense i can claim is petrol at .70c a km. What i wish to know is, what proof will the canton require that i drive 140km a day due to living in France - would this just be a matter of proof of home/work address? Or will i need to provide petrol/toll receipts (not really realistic i wouldn't think).

I'd appreciate some advice from anybody who has submitted petrol expenses as a frontalier previously.

Many Thanks,

Adrian

Re: Geneva - Quasi Resident Status and Tax Reclaim

I've successfully got back my tax the last two years as a Geneva quasi-resident. All you need for the mileage is the distance from your home address to your work address, calculated by "Via Michelein" or some similar site. No need for receipts or whatever.

I've found a good company who will do the whole thing for you for CHF200. I may use them this time, altho' I've pretty much got the hang of it now... They found a mistake in my 2010 claim in 5 minutes. Correcting it made me 4000CHF. Their charge for that: 80CHF, including a form letter. A bargain! PM me for the address, which I'll post soon, in any case.

Re: Geneva - Quasi Resident Status and Tax Reclaim

I'm also in the same boat. Live in france work in Geneva.

Trying to figure out the 'quasi-resident' situation.

I have downloaded the GEtax program but am struggling with the 'numéro de contribuable' and 'code déclaration'.

From what i understand the program is supposed to clarify how much you can claim.

All my households revenue comes from switzerland so in theory i can claim the 'quasi-residence' status. I have the 'demande de rectification' form filled in with my salary certificate but do i need to attach a letter stating what i am reclaiming? 35km a day at 0.70c per km?

Any information would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

Re: Geneva - Quasi Resident Status and Tax Reclaim

The GEtax does not clarify what you can claim. On the contrary, if you are quasi-resident. It is just the standard way that all Geneva residents fill in their tax. Many of the parts that you must fill in are totally irrelevant to your quasi-resident tax claim. Requesting that you fill it all in is just a method to keep the number of claims down.

Here are the people that I used:

http://www.quasi-resident.ch/

They offer a free online assessment, which can't be bad. Easy to find, it's in the same building as Lamborghini...
