PostFinance lowers interest rates

Just spotted this on the PostFinance website:

PostFinance lowers interest rates and introduces interest threshold

The interest rates on national and international financial markets remain at an all-time low. As a result, with effect from 1 March 2012, PostFinance will lower the interest rates applicable to its Deposito and e-Deposito accounts. It will introduce also a reduced interest rate for higher customer assets (asset interest threshold).

The continuing low interest rates on national and international finance markets are having a negative effect on PostFinance’s investments and it is becoming increasingly difficult for PostFinance to invest its customer deposits profitably at an acceptable risk. Consequently, with effect from 1 March 2012, PostFinance is lowering the interest rates applicable to its Deposito and e-Deposito accounts.

This reduction will amount generally to 0.25% for the Deposito and e-Deposito accounts of private customers, and between 0.125% and 0.25% for the accounts of business customers. Even after these interest rate reductions PostFinance will continue to rank among the financial institutions in Switzerland offering the best interest rates in the retirement and savings segments.

Additionally, from 1 July 2012 PostFinance is introducing reduced interest for deposits above a defined amount (asset interest threshold) for private customers and associa-tions. Customer assets of over CHF 500,000 (or equivalent value in foreign currency) in Deposito or e Deposito accounts will attract the private or association account interest rates. An interest threshold of one million Swiss Francs for companies has existed for a long time.
