Ordering online to be sent to Basel - do I have to pay extra (tax?!)

Hello,

I've been reading some posts here on EF but I cannot seem to find an answer at all.

Whilst living in UK I shopped quite a lot online on Topman.com, ASOS.com and Amazon... I wish to continue to do so but have my goods delivered here in Basel, Switzerland.

Am I allowed to do this - or is there a certain limit I am allowed to spend? If there is a limit, what is it and is this only per order/month?

Or would it be best to order the goods, have them delivered to a friend and they send the stuff over?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

CH = non-EU

Anne Summers + Swiss Postal MWSt tax charge!

A legal solution to avoid customs charges ( DE, FR, IT, AT delivery addresses )

You might save by quoting an EU delivery address, and go over and pick up the items. You might need this option if the seller refuses to ship outside the EU ie to CH

Bear in mind the duty-free allowances ( online purchases and delivery cf. carrying over by yourself ).

Re: Ordering online to be sent to Basel - do I have to pay extra (tax?!)

Hello,

Thank you very much for responding.

So if I have my goods delivered to a post drop place in Germany (I'm right by the Basel / Weil Am Rhein border) - would I be able to spend as much as I want - it would literally only be around £60?

Do you know what the limit is on bringing it over the border?

Thanks

I've ordered from AllSaints in the UK and their system kindly removed the VAT for shipping to Switzerland, so by the time I'd paid the import duty (and more importantly, and substantially) the admin fee, it was still less than the VAT. So that was a result. I don't know if ASOS does that. Of course if you have to return anything, the postage may make it not worth it in the first place.

Amazon parcels get through unscathed, but that'll be because they're always under the limit.
