Tax forms, reclaiming tax at source

Hi Everyone,

I am a B permit holder and working in Basel country (BL) canton since January of this year and my tax is deducted at source. I didn’t receive any tax declaration form until now and since I am a starter, I would like to know from anyone, when this tax declaration form has to be filled in and submitted to reclaim some tax.

Does the tax declaration form come in all official languages of Suisse or that depends on the Canton.

I would appreciate a response from anyone, please.

It should come in January next year unless you earn less than 120K, the deadline to submit it is end of April. It will come in German AFAIK (at least I only receive it in German).

BL provides a software you can use to prepare your tax declaration and then you can print the forms and send it to Liestal.

If you earn less that 120K a year you're paying source tax, which basically means that your salary at the end of the month already has the tax deducted from it. You'll get a form at the end of the fiscal year where you can declare anything the taxman forgot to tax, and conversely, any deductions you might have. (I hope I got this right, feel free to correct if wrong)

In my best understanding, a B permit holder pays tax at source irrespective of whether he earns less or more than the threshold you wrote. Furthermore, if one earns more than the said threshold one is obliged to fill-in the tax declaration form.

If you are taxed at source you do not need to bother with a tax declaration.

Does anyone know if this software is available in English? Probably not so much next best choice would be French???

I don't agree with that, because unless one files a tax declaration one cannot think of getting some tax deducted at source refunded (on tax savings investments made like 3a pillar investment.)

Furthermore, above 120k earning needs to be declared and that's my understanding.

Maybe I'm not a good example but in the canton where I live that doesn't happen.

You will. YOur first time just takes a while to come through.

Going back up, you can apply for a source tax adjustment (I guess a tax return "lite") for less than 120k to allow for pillar 3a etc.

Hi

Following the request that I made to Steurerverwaltung, Basel-Landschaft to send me papers to file my tax returns for 2007 … few days later, I just got a one page printed document in blue colour that read: Antrag für eine anteilmässige Rückerstattung der Quellensteur; Eingabefrist: 31 März des Folgejahres. Is this the correct form I got? I hold a B permit, live in Reinach, BL (>120k)

Hi

When I contacted the tax office in Basel land, they sent me tax refund form instead of tax declaration form, although my gross earning is > 120k. Would I be violating any legal laws in BL if I dont file the tax returns and instead send in the tax refund form the tax office at Liestal, BL sent me.

Not all B permit holders have tax deducted at source. If you are married to a swiss and you hold a B permit "Coming from the USA or Canada" you are still required to file a tax return.. Speaking from personal experience.. u shoild have received the tax form by the end of January

I have my tax deducted at source and earn > 120k. Do by Basel Land kanton law have I to file a tax?

I don't speak German language and have quite a difficulty in understanding the info posted at BL tax web site.

As far as I know you are still required to file a tax return. Suggest that you get in touch with a tax Treuhand Bureau. Can your company not recommend one?. If not check in the local papers of your Geminde and I am sure that you can find some advertised.

I'm on a B, taxed at source yet am getting registered letters asking me to fill out my 2006 tax return (they asked me some time ago) and now am asked to fill out my 2007 tax return.

What happens if i just do nothing? Will they bum me?

Sorry I have no idea as to what happens. Would it not be better to just do it and not have it hanging over your head. I am sure it will have some sort of repercussion if it is not done. Its not a big deal to do . I myself hate doing it so I have someone from a Treuhand Bureau that does it for me.
