Does anyone know if we are wise to make a tax declaration?

We are currently b permit holders paying quellensteuer. We own a property in Switzerland and therefore we are allowed to make a tax declaration according to a tax advisor BUT is it in our favour to do so?

In 2012 we spent c.15'000 chf in renovation which I think is tax deductible.

We would be taxed on Adliswil tax rate.

Any experience?

It will cost c.500 chf for a tax advisor to submit the forms for us.

If you have a mortgage on the property and you have done the renovations I think it would be to your advantage to fill out a tax declaration but I'm not an expert and we don't live in Zurich.

Do you really need to file tax thru advisor? Why won't go to your local Gemeinedehaus and ask how to deduct tax from renovations in Finanzverwaltung. I was helped by them in several aspects and all needed was to put my figures in tables and file the tax report with proof in form of underlying documentation. Finish and clear.

They will also be able to help you with answering what else could potentially be tax deductible and claimed e.g. interest rate from bank accounts, alimony, study materials, and etc...

I spoke to the tax advisor in our local gemeinde and it turns out we have been paying the wrong canton tax since 2011...

How interesting.... Looks easy to sort out thank goodness. If you own property in a different canton to where you work then everything goes though the canton where you work. Of course... The other canton did not tell us to stop paying them the tax though.

Apparently you can photocopy the tax forms and just send the copies to the gemeinde where your property is.

If you own a property in CH and are on B permits you can file a tax return like on a C permit or earning over 120,000 chf per year.
