Anyone found a good accountant in Geneva?
I just got a C permit last year and went Sole trader a month ago, I also think I've got some money to claim back for the last few years, hope it's not too late for that!
Recomendations and contacts would be great.
I speak OK French but would prefer an English speaker as I want to be sure on this.

I can highly recommend Christian Nussbaumer for Swiss tax filings. He is in Horgen - I dealt with him over phone/email/post very effectively. Great English, explains everything so it makes sense, gives advice for structuring. Our filing included US, UK, and Swiss assets and his price was extremely reasonable.

I can also warn you to stay away from Tax Expert ( www.taxexpert.ch), particularly Katharina Padrutt. She filed our 2007 taxes and charged us over CHF 9,000!! We thought there was an extra zero on the bill. She could not and would not substantiate the exorbitant pricing (and was extremely rude throughout the process). In the end, we had an issue with the tax authorities about the filing - which Tax Expert would not deal with. Christian ended up fixing this issue as well as filing our taxes in subsequent years -for far less money.

We paid the 9k bill. Didn't think we had an option. My company helped defray some of the cost which helped, but still an outrageous amount to charge.

I worked for 10 years for Big4 companies in taxes (which are known for outrageous fees...) and I have rarely seen a bill for filing a tax return exceeding CHF 4'000-5'000. It can go up to CHF 10K, but for a very very complicated situation with a lot of issues and parallel questions. I have never seen and heard such fees from a company which is not a Big4. This is just insane and as a professional and certified tax advisor I can only tell you this is just a shame! All they deserve is a denunciation to the Swiss Treuhandkammer and all the bad publicity you can make. I am ... just out of words...

| | | Re: Finding a tax advisor, consultant or accountant | Quote: | | | | | Hi..
I am looking for a tax consultant in the Vevey-Lausanne-Montreux area, who is aware of UK and Swiss rules. I was freelancing through my UK company before I moved to Switzerland. I would like to close my UK company and also look at where I have to pay taxes for these and how much.
Thanks for your help! | | | | | Hello all,
Was wondering if anyone can recommend a good English speaking fiduciaire in the Lausanne, Lutry, Vevey area. Ideally a smaller company, individual to provide advice regarding personal taxation / filing. Thanks in advance.

So far so good. Very happy with service thus far | | | | | What were his charges like? I've got a reasonably straight-forward return: 1040, 1116, 2555.

| | | Re: Finding a tax advisor, consultant or accountant | Quote: | | | | | How much constitutes "jaw-droppingly?" | | | | | For a basic tax return - one Swiss salary, full year residency, up to 8 bank accounts/invesntments, 3rd pillar and no property - 1200 CHF in 2009.
I went to someone else who dealt with my return - which was a smidge more complex than above - and it was under 300 francs.

| | | Re: Finding a tax advisor, consultant or accountant | Quote: | | | | | Yes of course, generally especially with the big four as they are called, however, my experience of BDO is that they are refreshingly cost effective. | | | | | | Quote: | | | | | I agree, I also have positive experience with BDO, both regarding cost and service. | | | | | May you tell which tax advisors you were dealing with at BDO?
(I filled out their website form asking for a quote, and the tax advisor who replied charges CHF 400/hour + expenses, which seems rather high.)
Edit: I've contacted several in this thread recommended tax advisors and the charges seem quite outrageous, some go even up to CHF 600/hour. May somebody confirm these are standard rates for Switzerland?
(I'm suspecting that my current non-Swiss location may have an influence on their quotes.)
