Reduced taxes for Married couples

Yipee! Married couples will no longer be penalised by a heavier tax burden than unmarried couples! http://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/front/Ne...rss=true&ty=st

I think this will be good news for quite a few people on this forum as well.

Re: Reduced taxes for Married couples

I presume that the sentence "Married couples will however not notice any effects before 2009." means that when you pay 2008 tax in Zurich for instance in 2009, it will be cheaper then. In Kanton Aagau we pay in advance - perhaps I will notice a difference sooner?
Whichever way - it is still good news - pity you cannot back date it to when you got married.

Yeppie! That's good news. My Swiss boyfriend will be glad to hear about it because we are planning to get married in 2009.

Re: Reduced taxes for Married couples

This is already effective (in a way) in certain cantons. They apply a weighting so that married couples are not disadvantaged

Re: Reduced taxes for Married couples

Just so we know how it helps, this what they say:

Quote:
They will be able to deduct up to SFr12,500 in a dual-income household. An additional tax allowance of SFr2,500 will be granted to all married couples to prevent new tax differences between dual and single-income households.
I wonder though if when both earn say 100k, these deductions on 200k together really balance out...Ok, maybe it does for 160k and below? See
Quote:
Für 160'000 Doppelverdienerehepaare fällt die Diskriminierung gegenüber gleich situierten Konkubinatspaaren völlig weg.

finally lower taxes for married people

Hi all!

finally married people are no longer paying way more taxes:

http://www.efd.admin.ch/dokumentatio...x.html?lang=de

sorry german /french only

to sum up the new rules starting 2008:

-you can deduct 50% of the lower income up to 12500 from the taxable income
-another 2500 gets deducted from income

it's the right year to get married..
Plus this is going to change again around 2010 to make it even more family friendly (I hope).

Paul - what's your question? If you living in Switzerland, you would pay Swiss tax on your pension.

And you have a button called CAPS LOCK - please press it just once so you get some nice little letters too

Hi,

I would like to understand more about the current system and the reformed system:

Today, married couples both having B work permit, taxed at source in category A (taxed like singles) as of today

How would it change with this rule? Can you claim back some taxes?

Thanks!

Re: Reduced taxes for Married couples

I'm digging up this old thread because unlike the now outdated article said, the tax break for married couples in Switzerland HAS NOT happened yet! Anyone know what't going on?

Re: Reduced taxes for Married couples

More recent information - and quite a lot of it! - can be found here (April/May 2010):
Taxation after marriage

(I found it by doing a forum search for "taxation" and "marriage". Of course your cantonal website is probably the best place for absolutely up-to-the-minute information.)
