| | | Paypal users?
Hello,
Are there any PayPal users out there who *regularly* use it to make online transactions? How can you be sure that the payment site (you are directed to) is the real one that you intend to submit payment?
There are many phishing scams out there and one popular group targeted appears to be Paypal. Just a quick non-scientific poll.
Thanks for your input.

True Paypal has been a target of phishing. The most important thing to look for is, when you type www.paypal.com, you should automatically be connected to https://www.paypal.com/. Check to see this appears in your address bar together with a lock symbol.
Always type in the address yourself and avoid going to Paypal via a link.
Needless to say ignore all emails with passwords, account update etc. notices from paypal. Do not open the attachments and or click on the link within.
Stay within these parameters and you will be (hopefully) safe.

Been burned by the Paypal thieves. Here the basics. The total now just shy of CHF 4500.- and everybody has dropped the case like a hot potato. Wimps.
My suggestion, keep your payment below your pain threshold. (10-15 Euro/Dollar is my Paypal limit). Or simply make your payment via other means.

I've accepted PayPal payments for overseas orders for 2 years now and never have had any trouble. I've also used PayPal to buy things online now for many years - again no trouble. Fast, efficient, hassle-free - but then I use a Mac, I don't know if that makes any difference. Maybe I've just been lucky.
I always access directly through the browser (typing in the name), and never use a link in an e-mail. I delete all e-Mails from PayPal or PayPal look-a-likes.
There is an e-banking alternative for European bank transactions which is being introduced this year: SEPA (Single European Payments A....). So if your bank participates (most major banks will be) you can send and received Euros now at a fraction of the price (CHF 0.30 if I read correctly) and the transaction time has been significantly reduced.

In Switzerland there are some alternatives to using PayPal such as "Click and Buy" which gets charged directly to your phone bill
or via the Post using a "Post Card". |

While I'm not fan of paypal, the paypalsucks site seems to direct people to one certain online transaction company. Seems a bit strange to me.

Didn't notice that. They're probably biased then. However, I still think paypal is evil. It would make sense though that a website devoted to trashing paypal would probably accept money for advertising from a company trying to out-do paypal. The question is, which came first?

I'd just think twice about using the services that paypalsucks is promoting. They could be okay, but it just seems a bit dodgy.

Though it may depend on what you are using Paypal to pay for, Paypal is a prime tool for scammers. You order, you pay, no delivery. You complain to Paypal, the scammer's account is empty and you get nothing. This happens at least once a week on a forum site I moderate. We have taken the only practical measures we can against scam sellers with 150 minimum post count and one year a member, iTrade rating, but in the end only advice we can give is either know your seller or use your credit card where you may get some protection if you report the incident quickly enough.
Any payment you make over the Internet you need to regard with the same care as you would to where you would leave your wallet laying around. Internet fraud runs in the billions according to something I saw recently.
