Germany VAT on electronics

Guys, I plan to buy a projector (prolly around 4-500 EUR) in germany.
Are there any limits, when I can claim back the VAT ?
Also any limits if I will be forced to pay some duties/tax or so when i ask for stamp at border?

if anyone has some experience/advice with electronics in general pls share

thx

Re: Germany VAT on electronics

You have a 6 month time limit to get the tax back from the shop. As its over 300chf you will pay 8% on the total pre tax price.

All is clearly explained on the swiss customs website and in the nice leaflet at the border.. suggest you pick one up.

Re: Germany VAT on electronics

Hint - German Zoll stamp on paperwork has to be done day of purchase/bringing across border; I've had German VAT not returned due to buying something on overnight trip and bringing over border the next day.
Paying the Swiss 8% is pretty easy, just go into the office and show them the same stamped receipt you received from German Zoll office. Usually can pay with EC or cash, and is due even if you don't claim back German VAT if purchases over SFr 300 including VAT.

Everything should be explained here:

Buy online through Amazon - in Germany, France, UK, or Italy. The Amazon country sites have different prices, FWIW, although they ship from exactly the same warehouses. Sometimes this results in a price differential of 25%.

Amazon Global Shipping reliably takes care of all import-related issues. It is as if you ordered from within Switzerland.

This results in no hassles whatsoever with
- using the car to "drive over"
- getting the customs stamp
- claiming the VAT from the vendor in Germany

Note that ordering through merchants abroad other than Amazon typically gets the products through the "Schweizer Post" importing process. And that is quite expensive (on top of VAT and customs).

Re: Germany VAT on electronics

I would also check prices here online like conrad, as often with electronics I find Switzerland prices aren't that bad.

My camera was only slight more expensive then in germany after tax removed.

Not true for 'normal' purchases. One customs guy told me that he once refused to stamp an export form for five fresh chicken one week after the purchase....

Not true for purchases with a 'normal' invoice: The 300 CHF threshold is calculated on the net price, excluding VAT.

Re: Germany VAT on electronics

Once you log in with your account details the product information will tell you whether a certain product can be sent to Switzerland for products sold by Amazon (assuming that you are registered with your Swiss address). In case the product is sold by one of their marketplace vendors you will have to verify the shipping details with the vendor.

Am not surprised that projectors don't work with TVs - aren't they supposed to replace a TV ?

Re: Germany VAT on electronics

sorry, I meant if TV-s can be ordered..

I know the process, but as the result was a NO 6 times, I'm assuming that the whole TV category might be unavailable for Switzerland from GER.

And pls, read between the lines: I meant that some projectors can be ordered on amazon to Switzerland, but I couldn't find any TV, when it could have been ordered

You are groaning me because I tried to help but did not "read between the lines" of your less-than-straightforward postings ?
You are certainly off to a good start into 2015 as well as into the forum.
