Calculating the real net salary

Hi everybody,

I'm discussing about a postdoc position at ETH. I'm married and my wife will not be working the first year (she is writing her thesis). Both 30 years old. No kids. So, I'm calculating the budget and trying to figure out what my net salary would be.

The salary is fixed at 86300 CHF per year 100% (https://www.ethz.ch/en/the-eth-zuric...ry/salary.html).

Then, according to the ETH salary calculator (https://www.ethz.ch/en/the-eth-zuric...alculator.html) I would be getting net monthly salary ~6000 CHF per month.

However, I read that I need to pay communal tax plus health insurance (for two). How can I calculate these? For example, if I stay in Schlieren, How much would it be?

Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post!

Re: Calculating the real net salary

12-15% deductions for tax and the social security and pension requirements, plus 550-650 for two adults for health insurance without anything too fancy.

Try to get your rent under 2000chf and don't expect to eat out a lot, and you will be good... Oh, and a car is not needed in Zurich. The transport links are amazing!

Health Insurance - comparis.ch
Tax - comparis.ch
Thanks for the quick answer! I saw this very nice website. I saw the insurance will be approx 400-500 CHF per month.

Still confused about the tax though... Since I'm an EU citizen, I am subject to withholding tax. On the ETH calculator it gives:
Salary Monthly salary
7191.65 CHF Monthly net salary 6012.90 CHF Social contributions and withholding tax
Total deductions
1178.75 CHF Non-occupational accident

41.70 CHF AHV contributions

370.35 CHF ALV contributions

79.10 CHF Savings contribution pension fund (Standard plan)

236.25 CHF Risk premium pension fund (Standard plan)

56.50 CHF Withholding tax

394.85 CHF
The last one (395 CHF per month) is what comparis.ch gives as well when I select withholding tax.

Does this include all the taxes that I would pay, so is this the real net salary I'll be getting or do I have to deduct some communal tax extra according to the area I'll live (i.e. Schlieren, Hottingen, etc.)?

Thanks

That is the full deduction for income tax.

Re: Calculating the real net salary

The Swiss Federal Tax Administration also has a calculator on their website.
Pick year 2014 as a reference for 2015.

Re: Calculating the real net salary

Oh, actually this calculator gives me a higher net salary

It might have to do with withholding tax or with selecting a specific place to stay than Zurich in general.

Thanks!
