Do I need as EU resident to do the tax return?

Hi everybody and above all sorry because of what can possibly be a redundant thread (I have been searching but everything sounds like chinese). I am a mess regarding to taxes declaration even in my home country so being abroad doesn't makes this easier.

Spanish citizen living in Canton Luzern, not married, working since April last year for an american company, B permit.

Do I need to / can I / should I apply for the tax return? In affirmative case, how can I do it (there must be some guidance in English somewhere)? Any tips?

If I see this too messy I will apply for professional help but at least I wanna try to do it myself (or try to understand it...).

Thanks a lot for any response and help given, highly appreciated.

Ana

Re: Do I need as EU resident to do the tax return?

You likely got taxed at source. (120k limit as mentioned below!)
So no you do not need to do it. You will not get any money back this way

However you can if you like to but run the risk of having to pay extra.....or you might get some money back.

And here is a thread to get you going
tax forms in english

Maybe / Possibly / Perhaps.

Does not have English language documents so I suppose that there are none.

Generally speaking you have to submit a tax declaration if your annualised income is 120000 or more.

Some cantons allow for an adjustment to the taxes you already paid - not sure about Luzern. And if you are allowed, it is not clear whether this would be to your benefit.

All in all - complex. Sorry.

The good news is that a Swiss tax declaration can be simple

Re: Do I need as EU resident to do the tax return?

Still confuses the life out of me.. 2 years I've been here, permit B, EU, tax at source, +120k.. I still haven't filed anything and nobody has asked me to..

Recently i dropped an enquiry to a local fiduciary company i saw recommended on another forum. They said i was non compliant and should act now, they would do it for me of course for 250.- per hour.

Problem is, asking around people I know. Everybody is either the same as me (+120, EU, tax at source and not submitting any return) or they've been here for a long time, paying own tax and can't remember what they did before.

One of these days I'll call the tax office

It would probably be worth your while contacting them to avoid grief later on.

I think ( correct me if I'm wrong) they you work in Geneva but live in Vaud. The limit for doing a tax return in Geneva is much higher so you probably wouldn't have to do a return if you lived in the canton.
Vaud is 120k however and you are taxed where you live not where you work.

They will catch up with you eventually and when they do you will it could be painful so best get it over with now.
