Post office has delivered my prefilled form for credit card to someone else

Hello,
maybe i will find some bank experts here who could help me...
i have ordered online a credit card from one of the bank institutions here and this evening i have found the pre-filled form, that i should sign and send back to them, in my mailbox.
To my unpleasant surprise the letter was open, with an apology note from one of my neighbours (i dont know her personally)as it had been delivered to her mailbox. I was really shocked about it. In the form there is mentioned my bank account number, all my personal info, etc.
My concern is if the data there can be somehow misused? Not that i dont trust my neighbours , but one never knows...

I will make an official complaint about it to the post office too, however i am not sure how to proceed with the bank? Is it safe to keep it as it is or should i better change the bank?

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Re: Post office has delivered my prefilled form for credit card to someone else

Since it was addressed to you, and not to your neighbour, the question I have is why did your neighbour open it? Mail is placed in the letterbox with the address face up.

Today I had something intended for my neighbour put in my letterbox by mistake. It is cold out, I suspect the postman is wearing gloves and perhaps it is not so easy to sort the mail with the gloves on. I just put the item in my neighbour's letterbox. I didn't open it.

So I would go ask your neighbour to explain.

It maybe delivered face up in the mail box, but by the time you got it out along with pages of publicity carried it wherever, made a cup of tea it's quite likely no longer face up!

If it's in the mailbox you automatically assume it's for you and just open the letters. It is at this point you realise it's not for yopu !

Do you need to worry, probably not, the neighhbour owned up and left a message so you know who has seen it in case there is a problem.

It is unlikely a genuine card frauder would put it bacvk and leave their name !

Any problems, you know where to go anyway.

Re: Post office has delivered my prefilled form for credit card to someone else

If i get lots of letters im not going to read the name in each one. Its in my mailbox and i assume its mine. Im just saying that the neighbor made a mistake. It happens. She apologized. End of story. If she just put the letter back without a note, the thread would have been 'i found an openned letter in my mailbox. Who openned it?'

Re: Post office has delivered my prefilled form for credit card to someone else

Thanks a lot for all your replies. I also believe my neighbour opened it by mistake only. I do appreciate that she made the effort and put it in my mailbox, along with the apology. My original concern was rather about the content and info included in the letter and possible issues coming from it. I probably am just too paranoid.

Well I guess I must be the exception because I do look at to whom the mail is addressed to before I open it. If you live in a household where one person doesn't open all the mail, then you would understand. But if you open everything, then I guess maybe you just turn all the envelopes face down and let the letter opener work its magic.

You are right on this one. I live by myself so i dont bother to look. Of course if i was living with someone else i would check the name on every single letter and catch such a mistake

I always look at who the letters are addressed to even though I usually open them all anyway but even then I once opened one in error as the letter was placed in the envelope in such a way that although the address was visible the name wasn't.
It was an American Express statement ( which is clear from the envelope itself) and as my OH has an Amex card I assumed it was for him and didn't bother to look at the name more closely before opening it.
It certainly opened my eyes as to the nocturnal habits of said neighbour ( after my initial WTF is hubby doing subscribing to that reaction) and I quickly stuffed it back in the envelope and put it in their box without ever admitting that it was me who'd opened it.

Our previous house here was at the end of the round and we often received letters for other people ( I guess we just got everything the postman had left in his bag) so I got into the habit of double checking the mail before opening it.

Best "eradicate" your neighbors just to make sure your trail is clean.

And then wipe out this public forum. And everyone who might have read it.

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to skim your bank details or post your salary on the local church's notice board.

Hope this helps.

Now why didn't I consider that excuse when I opened one of our kid's report cards. Of course this was back in the days before grades were sent electronically or available on line.
