Zug etax.2014 English?

Hi all

I've just been reading zug4you and see the downloadable tax return is available. Last year I had a tax accountant submit my bill but I'd be interested in doing it myself. I don't speak german though so was wondering if there is an English version of the application or an English handbook that goes with the application? I've looked but can't see anything myself

Thanks in advance

:-)

I think to remember there was a sticky on this forum on how to complete your tax forms. May be a bit different from what you need in your Kanton but it might help as a start?

Re: Zug etax.2014 English?

Just copy from what your accountant did the year before and use Google translate. You need the year's average and end of year rates for the currencies you have accounts/assets in - that's on the Zug tax website. Just got my zug tax forms today :-)

Re: Zug etax.2014 English?

Let me get this straight---the OP's accountant needs to read the tax forms in English? Wouldn't a Swiss accountant knowledgable about taxes in Zug most likely already know German?

*facepalm*

You're right---I didn't read the first post carefully enough. Please accept my apologies.

The other people on this thread are in a better position to give advice on how to translate the tax forms. I also don't know how much the OP was paying their accountant. If it were me, even if I was fluent in German, I would get an accountant just to make sure I didn't make any mistakes. But I'm not in his shoes, so I wish the OP the best of luck!

IMO unless you know what you are doing, pass it to the accountant and let them deal with it, no stress, no hassle and more to the point no mistakes. How much for a straightforward return, the cost of 2 nights out?... small beer (excuse the pun) for the peace of mind of knowing the Sith Lords at the tax office won't be all over you if you made an error.

Re: Zug etax.2014 English?

Why not ask the Zug tax office for assistance in filling it in? I'm sure they'd prefer to make sure you get it right first time rather than have to chase after you for some screw-up you inadvertently made. I know here in Fribourg canton they run various evening info sessions throughout the canton where you can get advice/info. Take along your previous return and get them to go over it with you so you don't make a mistake to start with. And the advice/help is free.

Could do what I did last year instead...

Forget to fill in the form, move house, get sent a letter telling you have a fine.. ignore it. Then they calculate all your tax for you and give you a rebate minus the 250CHF fine.. cheaper than using an accountant.

And if they calculate it wrong and you lose hundreds/thousands of francs in the process?

Quite simple to work out my tax with the online tools, I'm deducted at source as I've been here under 2 years. So wouldn't be hundreds or thousands out of pocket.. They actually initially said I owed them 1000s.. hence me ignoring it

2 nights out at a very nice place for us ;-) Can I ask what you pay and how complicated the return is?

I read the form and claim wherever I can. A friend's accountant didn't deduct child care costs when I did myself. There was a new box to fill in plus it was highlighted as a change in the local paper.
