Re: Budget For Family of 4 in Basel

Marktplatz has a fruit & veg market but it's expensive.

St Louis (as Belgianmum says) has a brilliant market Saturday mornings; it takes about 15-20 minutes to cycle there else there's a bus from the centre of Basel.

Lorrach (30-40 minutes cycle, or SBahn) also has a good market, Saturday and one other day (I forget).

kayakdad

I'd like you to know that this thread has been a real pleasure!

I admire you for remaining polite, practical and diplomatic, amidst the advice for and against various options, and I really ike the way you've gone about researching your information well, before you set out. Well done!
And thanks for being so... thoughtful, and appreciative.

Re: Budget For Family of 4 in Basel

Doropfiz,

I am really the one who benefited the most from this thread. All of the advice, even conflicting is useful to us as we plan our move. We are scheduled to relocate in April and all of the information that people have been kind enough to share has been incredibly useful. Thank you to everyone who offered advice for your contributions and your kind words.

I hope to be more active in the forum once I've relocated.

Thank You,
Dave

Re: Budget For Family of 4 in Basel

Going by your username, you paddle. FYI there is a slalom course in Huningue, France, which is just across the border (and the Canadian Canoe Shop is directly next-door).

There's also I believe four clubs in town for paddle sports. I personally don't live in Basel quite yet (moving tomorrow) but looking forward to trying this place out as an after-work work-out.

Re: Budget For Family of 4 in Basel

You are correct! Although the Kayak part of the username has ceded to the Dad part in the past few years. Both my wife and I paddle and are looking to get back into it once we settle down. Thanks for the link and good luck with your move tomorrow. Maybe see you on the water.
