Deciphering social deductions - Zurich

Hi all,

I posted a response to another thread, but felt it was better opening one here, as its more relevant to finance/banking/taxation.

Essentially I am trying to understand the social deductions for child care for each child. I'm presently living in Zurich.

From the following page it appears you can deduct up to 10,100 per child for nursery.

Leading from that link it references the 2014 tax guidelines, unfortunately also in German.

Given my limited german, it appears to me that you can get a 10,100 refund per child (see page 22 in the document). Has anyone any experience availing of this deduction? Also, is it only for nursery or can it also be used for a nanny etc.?

Many thanks.

No, you don't get a 10,100 refund, you reduce your taxable income by that amount.

Re: Deciphering social deductions - Zurich

Only a slight difference in that ;-)

Are you aware of any refunds you are eligible for related to child care - I've seen it come up on a few threads a number of 6000CHF. Am I also mistaken on that?

If you earn 180k, the 10k deduction is worth 3k or so.
