Foreign currency

Hello,

I have a question about saving foreign currency in Swiss bank.
I've traveled many countries and therefore have a lot of foreign currencies. There are a lot of small banknotes as well.
Therefore I want to know how does Swiss bank save the foreign currencies, especially small banknotes or even coins?

Thank you and best regards!
M.

Re: Foreign currency

Banks do not accept coins to convert them .
If you got an account at the bank, they will not charge you for the conversion
of the notes (Bank Coop does not charge, some other banks might do)

Banks never do anything for free, if they don't charge then the exchange rate will be very poor. Most CH banks charge 1% for foreign currency deposit or withdrawals except possibly Euro.

Re: Foreign currency

All banks* store foreign currency in the same way they store the local currency. As magnetic patterns within computer systems.

*Except the bank of Schuhkartonunterdembett

Re: Foreign currency

I've deposited some foreign currency.
They accept most banknotes, but not some small notes from some currencies.
They don't accept any foreign coins, even euros.
The place to do that is (for UBS) the one close to Rennweg. They have special counters for foreign currencies. For non-UBS card holder, they will charge 5chf per exchange.
