Large FX transfers, all at once or average over months?

I'm thinking of moving some CHF back to my home currency (AUD), in preparation for going back there at the end of the year.

Any advice on the merits of doing it all in one go or multiple transactions, spread over weeks/months (on the same principle as dollar cost averaging, avoiding the impact of short term fluctuations by averaging over multiple transactions)?

No idea which way the exchange rate is going and I'm too much of a mug to try to predict it.

Anything under Chf 250k is not "large" so the difference between 1 go and several is you'll only pay 1 fee if you do it in 1 go.

The exchange rate fluctuation can work both ways....

You don't know where the exchange rate is going but I usually exchange over several months if I don't see any strong reason to do it all in one go.

I transferred a lot back when the CHF spiked but now I plan to transfer every month or so, bit by bit. I use transferwise so fees aren't a concern.

Depends on the currency you're comparing it too. It's strong against the GBP right now but could get stronger with the UK election looming...
