Tax Audit for sole trader

Hi guys,
The Dienststelle Steurern have told me that they want to come to my home office to complete a tax audit. This relates to my first year as a sole trader.

I have all files and receipts, so hopefully have submitted everything correctly.

My accountant is on maternity leave, so I don't have any accountant on hand. Should I get another to check over everything my end before the tax man comes?

Anyone else out there had a tax audit?

Re: Tax Audit for sole trader

I'd tell them that my accountant is unavailable, and ask for an appointment for when she's back. They're usually happier dealing with accountants, so they may well wait. Otherwise, I'd advise strongly getting a temporary replacement.

When my company was audited by the AHV (as was), my accountant handled everything.

Re: Tax Audit for sole trader

I had an audit of my GmbH recently for the first two years of operation. I did it all myself.
Actually it was quite painless. The guy sat in a corner on his own going through the papers. At the end he had some questions, the ones I could not answer I sent to my bookkeeper who replied to them a few days later.

Basically it was OK, some raising of eyebrows over some of my expenses but nothing so serious that I had to pay extra tax or a fine or involve the bookkeeper.

The guy said they like to do this with new businesses to check that decent records are being kept, it is more advisory than a proper audit.

Basically took less than an hour, it is a nice day out for the taxman.
