Tax payments in Basel

Can someone tell me what the gross pay would be for a married man with one child, if the tax bill was CHF 92000 in the Basel area?

Re: Tax payments in Basel

Difficult to say.
First what means Basel area, Canton Basel Land or Canton Basel Stadt?

Is this Tax bill for federal tax, communal/cantonal tax, or both combined?

As this amount is regularly taxed we cannot tell you gross but net only.

As NotAllThere said, in Basel Stadt it is a taxable net income of ~300k.
In Basel Land it is a taxable net income of at least 320k.

Re: Tax payments in Basel

Am I right in thinking that Swiss Tax year is January to December. That you have until March to submit a tax return and then until November to pay. Are there extensions to this period? and if so how long would be permitted?

Re: Tax payments in Basel

I do not know about Basel but in Kanton SH and ZH you can apply for extension, normally you then have time till the end of September. BUT, you need to have asked for this extension within the normal time frame, ie before March 31st. I´d imagine it is similar in Basel

Re: Tax payments in Basel

Any request for filling extension must have been sent on March 31. First filling extension is granted till September 30.
if not filled in time you will get a reminder (There may be a CHF 40 fee).

For canton of Basel Stadt. Communal and Cantonal tax for 2014 was due on 31. March 2015 payable within 30 days. Any outstanding tax debt has an interest of 4% You can request an extension but the 4% interest still stands.

Federal tax for 2014 was due on 1. March 2015 payable within 30 days.

I don't know about Basel but here in Bern it's not quite like that. We receive 3 or 4 tax bills per year to pay, based on our previous year's income and what they think we'll owe. We can either submit a return in the spring or request an extension, but we still have to pay the bills as they come or work out other arrangements. It can take some time for all the taxes to get sorted - we only received our "final" bill for 2013 a few months ago.

Usually people want to know what the tax will be for a specific income. Why do you wish to determine an income that would attract a specific tax rate? I'm asking out of sheer curiosity.

Re: Tax payments in Basel

Thank you to all who have replied. All info is very helpful to me.
In reply to Not-all-there - I know what my partner paid in tax so I am trying to work out the level of income.
