Moving from London to Luzern help/advice re: property tax
I am in a long distance relationship with a Swiss citizen who works and lives in Luzern. We have been seeing each other every 2-3 weekends either here in London or in Luzern over the past 10 years.
The plan is that in approx 12- 16 months I will be quitting my job working for the NHS. I'll then emigrate and live with my Swiss partner in Luzern. Fortunately, I own a house in London which I am planning to let and use the income of the rent to keep me going for the first year and in the meantime learn german in Switzerland with the view of eventually getting a job there.
My question is regarding the tax system:
- Am I likely to be taxed at a higher rate in Switzerland if I own my house outright or is it better to have some kind of mortgage/loan towards it with a UK bank?
- Will the swiss tax system take into account the amount of income that i will get when i let my house or will they also take into consideration the value of my property in London.
- I will not have any other income, as I won't be working for the first 6 months up to a year whilst I learn german.
I would be grateful for your comments and advice.
