Post Finance Vs Swiss Quote

Hello, I am considering stepping into the BIG BAD world of trading for which I first need to open a trading account. Completely new to this and having done a bit of a background research on rates, services and platforms provided I am debating between Postfinance and Swissquote as possible providers. Any one has any thoughts or experience to share which may help me decide given the fact that I am completely new to this and would prefer a full service broker as opposed to a Discount broker which if I read it right both the companies are. Many thanks for your time.

What are you trading? US equities are better traded with a US broker.

The fees of swiss brokers are not suited if you trade frequently (buy & sell). If you are trading mainly US securities I'd recommend Interactivebrokers: low cost but user interface is crap.

Most UK stocks trade as ADR's on US markets. You don't have to pay stamp duty on US trades so use a US broker, second choice a UK broker, but don't trade in CH.

CH trades will attract stamp duty, it's a small market so probably Swiss Quote, I got ripped by Post Finance when selling as fees are not capped like most UK / US brokers.

Re: Post Finance Vs Swiss Quote

First you need to assess how many trades, of what kind, you'll probably do, and what they'll typically amount to. It makes a difference if it's ten or a thousand, 1k CHF each or 20k.

I don't know about swissquote, but IB is probably not that good of a choice for a novice, they're targeting semi- and full-professionals, which shows in their interface.
