Bank account number for PayPal

Hi,

I have a UBS Bank account and I want to link it to my PayPal account.
But I don't know how to enter my Bank Account number into my PayPal.

There is few ways to write my Bank account :

IBAN : CH711234123467896789B
Bank account number : 678967.89B

But paypal only allow to enter numbers. Letters and dots are not allowed...
How I am supposed to enter my Bank account number ? I search on few threads but there is any clear explaination about that.

Thanks

Try linking your PayPal to your credit card instead.

Re: Bank account number for PayPal

Hi

It was a way back, so do not remember. Our account is not with UBS and except for the case of IBAN no letters. Does paypal not have a helpline?

or speak to your bank, it maybe the last letter does not matter in this case, no idea. I am guessing the . (dot) does not matter, a bit like spaces with our account number.

Can only say when Bank Account linked to Paypal, then paypal send I think one or two random payments to your account and you have to let them know the amount and date for them to verify your account.

It is small amounts and they claim it back from you, I believe with your first payment for somethinng or for an item or when you receive payment for it or at the end of the first billing month.

good luck, let us know how you get on.

Would that no incur higher costs?

We usually pay by bank transfer direct to seller. Sometime used Paypal the normal way I was used to in UK, & the seller complained as lost money through paypal and was not agreeable, think made the different direct as a gift as did not want any problems and thought maybe the system different in Switzerland. But I have no idea.

Re: Bank account number for PayPal

PayPal was definitely not designed for Switzerland. But as the whole world seems to use it, it seems to be a necessary evil. I also have a UBS account and needed to link the account to my credit card. As for booking the PayPal balance onto my bank account, I spent a few hours on their helpline trying to find a solution. The problem: I couldn't transfer Euros (on my PayPal account) into my UBS Euro account. They can only transfer CHF into a CHF account.

Good luck!

Easiest solution - avoid PayPal. I never use it.

You just write the numbers and/or letters in the order they appear, without dots, hyphens or spaces.

For the IBAN field the same, you just write the IBAN, a series of letters and numbers with no dots or spaces.

If you are the buyer and pay utilizing PayPal - there usually are not any fees involved. The seller pays a fee to receive your money.

It is irrelevant whether you utilize a credit or debit card, a bank account transfer or credit that is sitting in your PayPal account, as a buyer - you are not charged a fee by PayPal for the transaction or purchase.

If you pay by credit card and the transaction is conducted in a currency which is not the same currency as that of your credit card, then your credit card issuer may apply a small fee (which can vary considerably) to your purchase and include it in the final amount you see on your credit card statement.

So people can pop money into it maybe, or do you need the name for that too?

That doesn't look like a real account number, it contains 1234 1234 and then 6789 6789. It must just be an example! Hopefully!

As a buyer, PayPal is easily one of the safest ways of paying, and also one of the easiest in getting your money back if there's an issue... they almost always side with the buyer in disputes, even against large retailers. Join the 21st century, Fleecie.

I would agree that for a buyer, PayPal is fairly safe (but not 100%).

I would never pay anything online by bank transfer whether through PayPal or not as there poorer chance of getting your money back if at all.

I would pay utilizing a credit card, via PayPal. This way if the goods do not arrive, you can file a claim in PayPal. In the unlikely event PayPal do not favour you as a buyer, you still have a chance to ask your credit card issuer to execute a so called 'chargeback' (refunds the money directly back onto your credit card) which will be issued to you, if the seller can't provide confirmation that you received the goods, regardless of whether you opened a PayPal claim or not or if PayPal decided against you.

Moreover, interest is not charged on amount that is later 'charged back' even months later, if it was charged on a previous credit card bill because the full amount wasn't paid i.e. including the amount for the disputed transaction, the interest will also be refunded.

I think most people are aware that nothing is "100% safe"...

They're also absolute cruts if there are account issues - for example if your credit-card expires and a payment is missed they'll block your account - and won't enter into a dialogue with you to resolve any issues.

This never happened to me. Every time a credit card expires and I try to use it, I just get a window asking me to enter a new cfedit card number or select another credit card from my list.

That's not my experience. Our company credit card was cancelled and renewed because somebody attempted a fraudulent transaction on it and a recurring Paypal payment to a US hosting company we use was missed. We simply entered the new CC number into the Paypal account, the hosting company tried again and everything was fine.

Paypal is actually very useful - it means you can buy stuff online on your CC without tediously entering the details each time (and no worries about that info leaking - see the fraudulent transaction above). Of course, keep your (unguessable) Paypal password in a password manager. As others have mentioned, you also get two bites at the chargeback cherry.

What are the downsides of Paypal? I can think of one - they won't let you copy and paste the password into the edit field when you first specify it. This is a bit painful if you're using a password manager (you should be!) which is generating a large and mixed-character password, but this is an infrequent occurrance.

Usually occurs on direct payments - eg Ebay fees linked to paypal account. I know people to whom this happened.

Typically the first two letters of the IBAN represent the country. The next two characters are check digits derived from the next 14 characters. Since we only support IBAN numbers for the country that the PayPal account was opened in, those two letters cannot be specified.
https://www.paypal-community.com/t5/...ng/td-p/478530
(They even mention, that two check digits may not be entered. How stupid, check digits have a perfect good reason)

That solves the CH part.

But the B or any other letter in the IBAN (which is perfectly valid) ?? I do not know. Get a bank account number without any letters (May be UBS is able to issue one, or go to a other bank PostFinance for ex.).
Do not look they are much help full at PayPal:
