How much of the maternity benefit will end up in my bank account?

Hello all,

Today I signed my contract and we're making the move to Zurich in a couple of months! Too many things going on at the moment and so I'm trying to get as much help as possible to resolve a few uncertainties. I'm not pregnant yet but we're getting married soon and I'm hoping that I will be at some point next year!

I've been reading through maternity policies and I have a few questions. Sorry if the answers are obvious, I'm trying to get some insight from someone who's been trough this already and can help me interpret the information I've seen.

Here it says that monthly earnings exceeding 7350 CHF will be capped on the 196 CHF per day. What is not clear to me is whether the 7350 is the net or gross monthly income. In section 8 of the same document it says that I should continue to pay OASI, DI and IC contributions on the benefit. And here it says "The allowance is paid in the form of a daily allowance subject to AHV contributions".

I'm trying to estimate what will be going in the bank account while I'm on maternity leave. Will it be 196*30 = 5850 per month? I don't know how much of this will be going to the above contributions, will I get taxed and how much will that be, the same as my pre-pregnancy tax?

Thank you very much in advance!!

It's gross, I suspect there are on average 21.6 work days a month so you might not get as much as your thinking, of course lower income means lower deductions

Thank you very much for your post.
So new mothers only get paid for the work days? Are you sure about that?
Do you know which governmental/local authority I can call to ensure this is the case?

Thanks again

This is for 98 days = 14 weeks

You need to have been insured 9 months prior to your pregnancy and have worked 5 months of that

Re: How much of the maternity benefit will end up in my bank account?

OK thanks for this roegner and for amending your post, it's just reinforcing the information in the documents I attached. I should have read my references twice before flipping with the response of fatmanfilms (when I learn how to groan I will come back to this post..)

So it is
  • 5880 per month, 196*30 days not only for the working days. 98 days/14 weeks = 7 days per week, 30 days per month!
  • It's paid for 14 weeks

My original question though is IF someone knows how much will end up to me after deductions.. If there is someone who has been through this and knows please let me know and I'll be eternally grateful!

Re: How much of the maternity benefit will end up in my bank account?

You will have to pay taxes and social security on this amount. Im sure there is an overview somewhere here on how much the IV, AHV and what ever is. Taxes will be dependent on where you live so no one will be able to tell you exactly what the amount will be. You could check with comparis and just take the gross amount and see what comes out.

As to the discussion days/weeks, if you are without work, this is counted with days, maturity benefit is slightly different.
