Letter from UBS new charges

Did anyone get an letter from them too? Got one today saying they'd start to charge a monthly fee (around 5CHFs).

Oh yes I got the same one

I guess is time to move to Raiffeisen bank. They still (don't yet) charge monthly fees, plus much more benefits than the ones I ever got from UBS.

Re: Letter from UBS new charges

I went to UBS to ask about the letter. The answer: UBS is losing money with the negative interest rates the Swiss National Bank is holding. Conclusion: Pass the cost to the users. This was not explicitly said in our chat, of course. But it is obvious.

But not all users will be affected, only the ones that do not pay any monthly fee yet. If you have one of the banking package (accounts + credit card + Maestro card, etc.) then you are paying already a fee and it will not increase. This is only for the customers that are having a "free ride".

The solution offered by UBS to me: Buy a package. With this fantastic solution I will only pay 10.00 CHF per month (5.00 more of what I will pay if I stay as I am) and I will have all my current benefits plus many others I do not want or even need.

If time permits I will go to Raifeissen tomorrow and see if it is more convenient to move there.

Does anybody knows this bank? Is it good?

Re: Letter from UBS new charges

i already pay 25chfs a year for the maestro card.

i guess if i cancel the UBS account, i'll save 25chfs a year for something i don't even use.

i just kept is as a backup card, but i guess it even makes sense to use credit cards for foreign withdrawals for limited amounts instead of paying the fee. esp if it effectively increases to 85chfs.

HAHA!

https://translate.google.com/transla...560&edit-text=

I'll make a summary of the news item in 1 line:
27th July 2015:
UBS reports net profit of 1.2 billion.

So UBS made 1.2 billion in 1 year, with customer's money. Yet they put additional charges to its customer...

And no one will complain or do something about it (like changing bank)
TIS.

Re: Letter from UBS new charges

I went to Raiffeisen, and I was blown away by these guys.

I was not even able to pass the receptionist and talk with a banker. She told me that they are not taking new customers which mother tongue is not German, French or Italian, because they do not have documentation in any other language. The answer was a simple NO NO.

She told me that in the past they got legal problems with a foreigner that claimed he did not know what he was signing and did not want to make himself responsible of whatever issue they had between them. So, her boss tell her basically to reject any foreigner.

After 8 years living in Switzerland the country do not stop to amaze me. A bank that does not want new clients is mesmerizing to say the least.

This is it. I will move to Postfinance. They are willing to receive the money of a humble middle-class worker without further conditions. And no commissions of any kind ever.

Cheers!

I think you don't understand the meaning of being blown away. It's very positive.

Postfinance also has charges for accounts with balances below 25,000. But everything is in English...

Re: Letter from UBS new charges

I only got free account from UBS when I was a student. After graduation they started to charge 6 Fr. per month, starting from next year, it's going to be 15/10 depends on asset...

Totally gonna switch to PostFinance where if you have more than 7500 Fr., it's free.

Correct! I did not even read well the details

Throughout the first half (year 2015), UBS posted net income of 3.19 billion francs

Anyway, story's the same: they made lot of money. They charge customers allegedly about negative interests (right, they can't obtain a return offsetting that low negative interest rate with customer's savings? maybe they should change job....not!)

Riiight, poor UBS!

Or poor UBS' customers who are in need of a good old fashioned vaseline pot (but they are not saying "NO" ).
