UK Pension advisor

Anybody with a UK Pension advisor might want to clarify whether you can receive advise you whilst living abroad. The latest correspondents from my advisor reads as follows.

"The terms of our professional indemnity insurance has changes which means that I am only able to advise you whilst you are on UK soil. This includes facilitating the release of any cash from your pension as we are unable to confirm any tax consequences when the proceeds are repatriated to Switzerland."

Re: UK Pension advisor

It's good that your advisor is professional. It was always a grey area in any case. Historically you needed to be on UK soil, not sure if that was ever officially relaxed.
Depending on the tax you pay in the UK there may well be additional Swiss tax to pay regardless if you repatriate the money to CH or not. Switzerland taxes residents on world wide income.

Re: UK Pension advisor

In one sense they were very professional as the have been collecting commission for over 30 years for something they can't now provide.

The proper (professional) thing would have been to at the least inform me about this before they were forced to do so by circumstance.
