What can you claim back from the tax office?

With our C permits came the status of no longer being taxed directly " la source"by employer. This means we'll need to manage our own tax. More work but a colleague told me there are a few things one can claim back and that in the end it is an advantage.

What are you actually able to claim for tax relief? Is paying your child's university fees in the U.K. one example?

Many thanks.

See here Obvious Tax Deductions

Not sure, but now you are an owner, repairs to the house can be put towards your tax. Only repairs and replacements though- so if you have new central heating, or redo the kitchen or bathroom, insulation, etc. But not for extension or new bathroom added. We have just done that, and we will be able to put part of the cost towards tax, like insulation to the roof and barn in that area, new (replacement) window, etc- replacement of WC and old plumbing and electrics, but not new shower and screen (the most expensive part). We put all the electrics up to date last year, and that went against tax, and the previous year addition of solar panels and replacing the oil tank, etc.

Training 3% of salary approx 2.5k for medical insurance approx 3k for lunch plus travel expenses. Loan interest 3rd pillar 8-20k for most people so your tax bill won't be so different to when you had a b permit.

It's hot, we're all tired after a busy week at work and the click of the search button just seemed a daunting effort! I'm glad I got let off this time round!
