Zug tax rates - weird increase

Hi all

I have been playing with the Federal Tax calculator to check how much a difference is between 110k and 120k and the tax amount varies wildly.

For 110k is shows 10628 while for 120k it's 12780, an increase of 20%!

Attached are the details.

Is that right? I have been trying to find out the tables with the Zug tax rates and how they progressively increase but can't locate it.

Do you produce the statistics for the Daily Mail?

For 110k you are paying an overall 9.7% tax, at 120k that increases to 10.7%. The tax rate for the 10k increase is 21.5%

Unsurprisingly the tarifs can be found on the website of the ZUG tax authority (Steueramt) - https://www.zg.ch/behoerden/finanzdi...ng/steuertarif

Re: Zug tax rates - weird increase

Thanks for the reply, my phrasing was really bad. What I meant is that for a salary increase of 9% (120/110k) the income tax goes up 20%(12708/10628), which seemed odd to me even though I expected taxes to worsen after 100k. Progressive taxation and all that I guess.

Yes I know, that's what I mean by progressive taxation. I just didn't expect such a sudden jump. Now that I look at the table it makes sense, look how much it worsens.

Re: Zug tax rates - weird increase

Do not forget to roughly double the numbers.
Commune takes roughly one time the "einfache Steuer" and canton takes also roughly one time the "einfache Steuer".

(For exact numbers of "roughly one time" see the Steuerfuss Tabelle http://www.zg.ch/behoerden/finanzdir...ung/steuerfuss)

the numbers in bold on the pictures are total tax including the federal, kanton and gemeinde....

...and in Zug, the Kanton takes only 82% and the Gemeinde just 60%

% alone does not help. For example Rapperswil-Jona is only 90% and City of Zurich a whooping 119%. But Canton SG tax table is much worse then Canton of ZH tax table (which is still not as good as canton ZG tax table (see above)). Even you see higher %-Numbers for ZH you will pay considerably less tax in ZH.
