You clearly have not looked at the form, you can tick a box that says you live at another address. So no falsifying at all.
You try it and tell us what happens then...

For everyone else here is a site which explains who is eligible to be on the UK electoral register. If you live abroad there are various criteria you have to meet. The multiple addresses thing is for people in the UK who have different addresses in multiple constituencies so they can decide where they would vote.

Consors Bank in Nürnburg is owned by the big French bank BNP Paribas, and has a completely free Internet Giro account with free VISA and free Maestro cards. But you need to have a regular income or pension!

There are only minimal charges if you get overdrawn. Free cash withdrawals at all ATMs world wide. Free SEPA transfers within Europe, a charge is made for outside Europe. Other standard bak services are available, see their web page. Disadvantage: it's all written in the German language.

Last month I gave them online my name and my mother's address in the UK. They sent me forms to that address, and then I had to take my British passport to the German post office for verification. No other hurdles to jump.
I think you'll find that the OP is looking to open a "UK online account" not a "German online account" from a UK address.

Yes, that might be the OP's wish, but that isn't going to happen is it? The Consors bank does everything a UK online bank does, and is virtually free of charge.

Re: Opening a UK online account

Hi

I have a standard Lloyds Bank current account in the UK using my swiss address. I have lived in Switzerland for 26 years and I have banked with Lloyds since I was 16. Initially when I moved to Switzerland I move my account to Guernsey but I closed that when they wanted a ridiculous amount of money to sit in the account or they would charge me enormous fees. I moved my account back to the UK and I am no longer on the electoral roll, don't own property in the UK and I have not lived in the UK since 1989. It is definitely possible.

Have fun

Martin

Do they offer their accounts with GBP as the account currency? I don't think so.

Besides all the technical details in terms of regulation / financial protection etc are different.

If the OP just needs a way of paying bills / purchases then there is always Revolut which we discussed previously in other threads. No need to even open a bank account.

It's possible to keep your already open UK account once you move to Switzerland no problem. Many others including myself do. It's not possible however to open a new account once you're already here.

It's possible however to trick the banks into opening an account for you but that's not the point.

Re: Opening a UK online account

Hi,

it is not really my original UK bank account, it was moved offshore and then back onshore. I was lucky that the bank manager I spoke to was very helpful. I just explained the situation.

However, I also have a bank account in the US and that was possible with just my passport and as a German Post account. UK is not the easiest place to open a bank account. Naturally it is much simpler if you have no overdraft facility.

Have fun

Martin

That's different to just calling them up and wanting to open a new account being based abroad. They will tell you to speak to the offshore banking people generally.
