A bank IT system usually is made up of a core banking system (say Avaloq). This is then interfaced with all the required third party systems that are required (swift payments, trading, etc.etc.). Avaloq for example comes with a number of interfaces ready to be connected. On top of that you have all the systems that are required by the regulator for compliance, client administration, etc. etc. These also have some sort of integration with the core banking system. The bigger the bank, the more complicated it gets!
